I completed my first course in Italian with Barbara Caporicci. I enrolled in a beginning class at the Los Gatos Community Center, and was very happy with the results. Barbara, a native of Rome, is a great teacher - she's extremely intelligent, fun, spunky, and I really looked forward to every class. And it was a REAL class (unlike others I've taken), with an actual textbook, reading, homework, and online games to complete every week. She was also eager to answer any of our questions over email during the week, and spent a lot of extra time with us outside of class. She even threw a party for everyone at the end of our beginning course! I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in learning Italian.

If you're interested, she has a few different courses that she is currently offering:

Holy Cross Parish, San Jose (580 E. Jackson Rd):
Beginning Italian course on Mondays, 1/9-4/3, 9:00-11:00 AM, 12 Mtgs, $155
The purchase of a textbook is required (approx. cost $20)
For more information or to register (408) 646-0232 or contact Barbara at it_language@yahoo.com

Los Gatos Recreation Center:
Beginning Italian course, on Tuesdays, 1/10-4/4, 11:15-1:15 PM, 12 Mtgs, $156
Beginning/Intermediate, on Tuesdays, 1/10-4/4, 9:00-11:00 AM, 12 Mtgs, $156
The purchase of a textbook is required (approx. cost $20)
For more information or to register (408)354-8700 ext. 221 or log on http://www.lgsararec.org/

Also, I'm interested in augmenting my learning with a semi-private group lesson focused on conversation. If there are at least two more people out there that would like to join my friend and me, the cost would only be $15 per hour. The class would be in San Jose, and would suitable for a beginning/intermediate speaker that can conjugate verbs in the present tense.

Ciao,
Elizabeth

These are very resonable prices. The only thing I have found here in Pittsburgh are the Berlitz courses. A half course runs something like $850 with a full course at $1500. But this is for semi-private instuction. I guess I should call to see if there are other options.

If anyone is aware of other Italian languge instuction in the Pittsburgh, PA area, please let me know.
