Hi!

I have a question regarding the line in the subject field, "quella è la luna". Would this be the appropriate way to put something along the lines of "that's the nature of the moon"/"that's the moon" (as an equivalence to "that's life"/"c'est la vie")?

That idiom is onexistant in italian and that's all. Nobody would understand what you mean if you just wrote "quella è la luna", neither I understood it until I read the full post. I would go with "Così è la vita", which is a better known idiom.

I'm not so sure it exists in English either. I have head people say "that's life", "that's kids", "that's men", "that's women" but never "that's the moon", unless of course they were point at it.

Alice, is there no such expression such as the popular French "c'est la vie" in Italian? You would actually say "what is life" to mean the same thing?

Spinnaker, that's "Così è la vita", not "cosa è" (or cos'è). So the meaning is "Such is life" or "Life is like that." It's always those little words that are the trickiest!

Thanks yes those simple short words will get you. Of course English has it's to, too and two. And don't get me started on read and read.
