What is the easiest way to 'find' a member.

For example I wanted to ask Jan from GA a question about a rental review she wrote. The only way I could think of to do it was to go to ST Talk and slog my way through the membership list (a total pain but I know this question has come up before and that Groupee does not provide access by letter etc.)

In fact I was not able to find Jan in the membership list - is it possible that she is listed under a different name? Would it be possible to add a click through to the member from reviews and/or trip reports as we do on Slow Talk?

My other 'complaint' Big Grin is that often reviewers do not list the actual apartment they stayed in. Is it possible to change the review format so that reviewers do note the name or number of the apartment they are reviewing - in cases where there is more than one apartment?

That would be very nice - I've often wished we could do that.

I may be wrong here, but I think that some people who post reviews are NOT in fact members; it's not a requirement.

I know a Mod will correct me if I am wrong here.

I don't know the answer, but I've alerted The Queen about the question. Hopefully she'll pop in soon to help out.

Okay - let me pop in here with what I think are the answers.

First, Marian is correct. You must be a message board member in order to post a trip report but you need NOT be a message board member to post a review. The member databases are separate entities at the moment. That being said, we have the e-mails of all the reviewers, and assuming they're still active, you can send me an e-mail with your questions and I'd be glad to forward it on to the reviewer for you.

As for the apartment name, when it's provided by the reviewer but it's one of several apartments within the same building or estate operated by the agency/owner, we remove it from the "Name" field and enter only "Apartment." The thinking being, that all the apartments within the facility will probably meet the same standards. However, (big however here), we will move the name into the text somewhere. For example, "We stayed in apartment yada" under "Location" or the "House/Apartment" section.

If the reviewer does not provide the apartment name, and we cannot gleem it from their description or the owner/agency website, we may write to the reviewer asking if they remember. If they do, we add it (see above), and if they don't, we publish the review without a reference to name.

How's that?

This is a great suggestion, Sheena! There are some technical difficulties because of the separate databases, but I'll definitely look into it.

Ah it is always my pleasure to throw out a challenge! Big Grin

Kim, if it is possible for you to contact Jan from GA, she wrote this review of Sant'Antonio - she stayed there in October last year, I think in the apartment I am interested in. There are so many reviews of Sant'Antonio but only a couple mention the name of the apartment which I find really frustrating.

I guess I am rapidly sliding into the 'grumpy old woman' category! Frown

Anyway if you can get hold of Jan she can email me at the address in my profile.

Many thanks.
