It seems everytime I come to the site it's really slow loading and I have to keep refreshing - anybody else experiencing this?

Liz, technical support is working on this. It's been going on yesterday as well. It is an intermitent problem, though, therefore harder to track.

At this moment, for me at least, it works perfectly well.

We will update as necessary.

Good to hear that others were experiencing this as well - I thought perhaps that it was just me! Smile

I continue to find it v...e...r...y slow quite often--to the point that I just give up and go on to something else. This seems to be particularly true if I am on a thread and try to go back to another level. This morning I left it spinning and spinning while I worked on another computer. When I came back to this one, all there was was a blank page. Are these problems related to a too small server? I would think that the site would lose traffic if this continues.

I was offline this morning so of course, didn't notice anything. I will update the support ticket with Groupee and I believe Doru has already let IB know.

Thanks.

I had problems too...late last night (late night in Italy anyway!) and then again this morning. Eventually I too just gave up.

As Doru has said, it's an intermittent problem, so I doubt that it has anything to do with the size of the server.

If it's slow to load, I find - 9 times out of 10 - that if I close and reopen my browser, the site opens without any delay.

It is not really intermittent. It is happening several times a day to many people. This is a behavior that has not been common to ST in the past. As far as closing and reopening browser--which is a pain if you have a couple tabs open--this slowness is not happening with other sites. It is a ST problem. If not the server, it may be a Groupee problem.

If people are choosing to close out and move on, a lot of traffic will be lost. It needs to be investigated.

For the last 3 days I've had problems, both with ST and with the Expats in Italy site. Pages take FOREVER to load, and I often get a "page can not be displayed" or "Can not find server" message. Since every other website I use seems to load normally, I'm assuming it's something unique to Groupee. Is anyone else still having problems?

Time for me to chime in too about this: I have noticed that it takes forever to load too. I have slowtalk as my HomePage and when I click on my house icon (on my Mac) which takes me back to the home page, it takes quite a while. Frown I have no trouble when I try another website, it's slowtalk. I use Safari.

I have noticed the slowness, as Doru said, intermittently. Perhaps that is why no one has replied to my question about trip reports? MayK

I know that I have brought this up before but...things don't seem to be getting better. Sometimes the connection is so slow that I just quit. This happens primarily when clicking on a link within a posting to another ST thread or when trying to connect to a link from the side bar or when trying to link to a ST blog from the web or bloglines. For instance, there is not a problem connecting to Jerry's blog as his is not hosted by ST while getting to a blog hosted by ST takes forever and I give up. The same thing happens when I try to leave a comment on a ST blog.Often I write the comment and then move on before it is posted as it is so slow.

I notice this mostly on the blogs, where I often just give up too.

It would be most helpful, if when you have these issues, you could post the time (roughly) and what browser you're using. Right now, the common denominator (sp) on many of these is people using firefox or macs b/c using IE (ver 6), I'm not seeing any problem. Also, be specific, anything with a slowtrav.com prefix versus a slowtalk.com prefix - since they're different servers. Thanks, it will help identify the problem (though fixing it may be another issue Roll Eyes)

I always use Firefox, and for me it's always been a problem with the blogs, and with the "waiting for www.slowtrav.com" message in the lower left corner. However, this morning it seems to be lightning fast. Maybe something changed!
