hello, for some reason by mistake I clicked on edit of a post and I was would have been able to edit someone else's post, someone needs to fix this!!! I put this here to be seen quickly. RR
I am logged in as a regular user now and I do not see a pencil icon on any of these posts.
Is anyone seeing the pencil icon.
Robert, do you think you might have clicked the quote icon which pops up a reply window with the person's whole post? That would look as if you are editing it, but you aren't - you are creating a post which starts with a quote from another post.
Edited to add: I see the pencil icon on my own post only.

When I refresh this page, for a brief second I see pencil icons on all the posts, not just mine.

For the future, if you see something like this on the board, click the alert button beside a post. This lets you type in a message that is immediately emailed to every moderator. This is the best way to let us know about a problem.
Ok, when I hit "refresh", I see the pencil icon for just a second or two for all posts. But - if I hurry up and click a pencil icon immediately after refresh, then the pencil icon stays up for all the posts. However, if I try to click it (either originally when I first refresh, or later, when I've clicked it already so the pencil icons stay up), I get the "you cannot edit this post because you are not the author" message. So while I can see the pencil icon, I cannot edit anything that isn't mine.
If someone tries [led just by his inquiring mind, eh?] to edit a someonelse message, the pop-up window shows a warning statement saying: "you are not allowed to edit, since it wasn't a nessage of yours" or something like that.
than hide-pencil-once-we-are-really-really-sure-it-is-not one, that allows slow computers of inquiring-minds on slow connections to see the pencil icon for a few seconds if the page is looong.
Anyway, it looks like the system knows how to block inquiring-minds attemps
