People can edit their own posts, within a certain time limit (60 mins, I think). But deleting is something else, especially when it's the first post in a thread (because that deletes the whole thread), and only mods can do that.
But click on the alert button (the ! in a triangle), and a mod will happily do the housework!

But that doesn't make sense because if you are the first poster, you started the thread and so the thread should, clearly, be deleted, too.
OK - I HOPE this will shed a little more light on the subject. We do have instructions for editing and deleting posts in our "How to" page, , linked to from the Forum Rules (see list in right column).
Bottom line - you can EDIT OUT (e.g., erase) the content of any post within a 60 minute window, but, according to the instructions, must use the "Alert" button to ask a moderator to remove the post.
No - I don't know why -- it has something to do with the program that runs our boards, I'm sure. And if I'm wrong - I'm sure one of the other mods will let us all know.
So Jane, (or Americana), if you post, then have second thoughts, use the red edit button to remove the content you have decided not to share, then hit the yellow button and ask us to delete the rest.
Confused? Good - that means I've done my job.

Still does not answer my question why, after one asks: "Are you sure you want to delete this message?" there is no "yes" or "no" option . What follows is "Continue", which is like "None of your business".

The button, when you click on it, displays "Edit or Delete Message". When you click on it and the message window opens, if you wish to delete the message (within 60 minutes from posting, of course) there is a blue link at the bottom of that page asking: "Delete Message...?" If you click on this link, you are taken to the next page which says: "Are you sure you wish to delete this message?" which is like a second chance, to think it through whether you really want to delete the message, and then you can either close this message, in which case the message remains unchanged, or you click on "Continue" and the message is gone in néant, or wherever deleted messages go to grieve.
As Doru said. We don't have the ability to change the button from Continue or add a second button (yes or no), though I can make a suggestion to the people who wrote the software.
I did change the message though to:
quote:
Are you sure you want to delete this message? If so, click "Continue." If not, close this window.
