I've done a search for this answer, as I know it's been answered at some point; however, I'm not finding a definitive answer. Here's the question:
I find no "mark as read" capability, so when I decided to see if I could do the "new since last visit", I ended up with 495 messages, 10 pages worth. I don't visit each and every board (I have nothing to contribute to certain boards, i.e., they'll forever be "new since last visit"), and if I do a search for new since last visit, those boards will come up.
What's the simple way to do this? When I was playing with the feature a couple minutes ago and got the 495, when I logged out and back in and did the same search, it came up with 497.
My understanding is that it is based on cookies on the computer you use. There is no "mark as read" feature. It shows the posts since your last visit, based on the cookie on your computer.
I never use this feature - I will do some searching on the Groupee/Eve forums to see if anyone has more to say about it.
From reading the Groupee/Eve forums it does looks like "New Since Last Visit", like the lightbulbs beside posts, show what is new since the last time you were on the board according to cookies on your computer.
Maria, you might try logging off and then logging back in. I've found that sometimes that helps. It used to take forever for my machine at work to recognize that I had read something until I started logging out and logging back in.
