Welcome to Slow Talk Tips - a new series to help you know more about the Slow Talk forum and how to use it. The first topic is how to update your profile photo.

Everyone has a profile page that you setup when your first signed up for the Slow Talk forum. The beginning of the year is a great time to check it and update any information in it that may have changed. The information in your profile is optional but filling in a few of the fields helps personalize our board. And nothing better to than posting a picture of yourself on your profile so we can put a face with your words.

The best way to post a photo on your profile is to upload one from your PC. You will first want to size and crop it using photo editing tools. A good size is between 200-400 pixels wide or high. We also recommend 72 dpi so the photo disk size is smaller and faster to display.

The photos in your profile are called avatars. Some forums display small versions of these under a members name in threads but we do not use that feature. Your photo (avatar) will only display on your profile page.

1. Go > Personal Zone > Profile. Click "Edit Complete Profile" in upper left corner.
2. Scroll down to Avatar/Picture URL field.
3. Click Edit. If you currently have a picture, you will have to scroll horizontally to the right and find Edit located next to your picture.
4. Click Upload custom avatar. Don't worry about it saying 0x0 dimensions.
5. Browse to your picture on your PC.
6. Click Update Avatar. (note it may not look as if it updated - if not, refresh or reload the page using F5 on PC or Command-R on the Mac).
7. Click Select This button under your photo. The Avatar Selection box will close and you will return to Edit Profile.
8. You should now see your new photo on your profile page. If it does not look as if it was updated - refresh or reload your profile page using F5 on PC or Command-R on the Mac.
9. Scroll to the bottom of your profile page and click Submit.
