A couple of times recently I've thought that I would submit a restaurant review for a restaurant with a good reputation only to experience less than I had expected.

Should I post these reviews.

Do others?

Is there a thread that already covers this?

John, post them. Smile

It all builds a full picture for those looking through the reviews. That is why you have three choices of what coloured smiley you want attached to your review - green for a happy face and a positive review, yellow for an iffy review and red with a frowning face for a bad review.

I second Leslie - bad reviews and neutral reviews are important too!

I really agree.

If every place gets glowing reports how can you choose Confused

Besides, I just had the nerve to give Jeangeorges in NYC a neutral. It made me nervous just to do it but it was truly my experience.

When I'm in Venice, I eat at a little trattoria every night but Thursday, when they are closed.

I have long chats with the blonde signora who owns it and cooks my dinner, and her lovely son (the waiter) who even sent me a Christmas card last year.

Their trattoria suits us to perfection for a few different reasons, and I will be writing them up a positive review, to go with the two poor ones already posted.

As an example--here is one I have turned in for a local place--as you can see it is far from complimentary--that's why Pauline includes a disclaimer.

Greve in Chianti: La Cantina
Piazza Trento 3

Closing day: Friday

Reviewed by: Jane from CA, review #2148

When: 2006

This restaurant disproves the theory that you can't get a bad meal in Italy. The food is poor, the service worse. We have given it 3 tries. It doesn't get better.

Directions: By the main bus stop in Greve

Because this place is conveniently close to us, we wanted it to be good, so we gave it 3 tries. Unfortunately, our first experience was repeated 3 times. The service is gloomy, rushed, and impersonal. The food is very slow in arriving - and that says something in Italy where food is always slow in arriving. When it does come, it is quite inferior to almost every other place that serves food. In talking with the local people, it seems that this is not a place they favor at all. So, find some place else in Greve or surroundings, don't waste a meal.

Though this disclaimer is automatically included at the bottom of every review, good or bad!

I was really upset that we wasted our time and money going to a restaurant which after we got back 5 other people at least refused to post bad reviews.I would say bad reviews are even more important that good as bad places are indeed in the minority.RR

Thanks everyone.
I have just posted two reviews. One positive and one neutral, just in case any of you visit Byron Bay or the Gold Coast.

And I have a few more in the pipeline.
