As I have mentioned here before, I'm a member of http://www.hospitalityclub.org . During the summer I get lots of requests from people that want to use my spare room and I normally say yes to 1 or 2. This year an Italian couple sent me a mail and asked if they could come and stay with me and I accepted. They are from Brindisi in Puglia and I said that they could stay if they could bring me a bottle of local wine and if they could teach me how to cook Italian food They stayed for two nights and I asked them if they wanted me to take them to Kjerag or Preikestolen...they choose tha last option and I suspect that it was because it was mentioned in the Lonely Planet guidebook. The trip to Kjerag is nicer...it is longer but not that many people go there. But we made it to Preikestolen in beautiful and sunny weather and they were impressed by the view
By the way...since they were backpacking they were not able to bring the local wine along as the bags were already heavy...it is a good thing that I had bought a couple of bottles of Italian wine. And I made risotto the first night and lasagne the second night and it seemed like they enjoyed it.
You are obviously a very generous person. I'm impressed with your hospitality, but this is sounding very one-sided. I hope other people show you the same level of kindness. You are always welcome to visit us in the Pacific Northwest! (Just don't visit in February because you won't think we're doing you any favors!)

Thanks for the offer Christine. Yes, people have shown me the same level of kindness. I have stayed at home with people at places like Kuala Lumpur and Singapore and it has been great fun to be with "locals". But I also enjoy it a lot to get visitors and show them my city and the landscape around it...I'm proud of Norway and the area I live in and I enjoy showing this to people
Gard, Thanks for the reminder. We've been hospitality club members for over 4 years, but have not yet had the opportunity to host. I think it has something to do with being in the vast midwest of the US. Most non-North American visitors just don't seem to find their way this far into the "interior". Anyway, I think I'll go in and edit my listing a bit.
