No one else has mentioned this, so perhaps I am the first to discover it.
I picked up a promotional copy of Skirt magazine today. Skirt is a monthly magazine for women distributed in major southeastern cities like Charleston, Atlanta and Savannah. They must sell some regional advertising. Anyway, it is just getting started in Knoxville, and I picked up a "promotional copy" at the Knoxville Home and Garden show-- the January 2007 issue. It's a big publication (17 inches tall x 10 inches wide, printed on newsprint paper).
This issue had a feature on the 7 Deadly Sins, each sin on a full page with a big illustration.
So there was Sin #2-- take the lazy way. You can see the page below (remember 17" x 10") and here is the text:
"Slow Travel grew out of the Slow Food movement in Italy, and it means renting a villa, cottage, farmhouse or urban apartment by the week and staying longer in one place and getting to know one area in depth. Instead of climbing on and off a tour bus, living out of a suitcase and cramming in as many sights as possible, you're buying groceries at the outdoor market, having a drink at the local bistro, making friends instead of taking photos. The Slow Travel website provides information on booking and planning your trip and tips and reviews from other travelers who have taken the road more slowly traveled. www.slowtrav.com"
The website is www.skirtmag.com but I did not see this page there and the search function didn't work for me.
Interesting definition of Slow Travel! It may feel lazy while you're actually there, but it certainly takes more upfront planning to achieve than just booking somebody's bus tour.
And what were some of the other things they defined as "sins"?
Roz, I had kind of the same reaction to the idea of the "lazy" label... but then Charley and I decided it was meant in a more positive way. (Is there a positive way???) But at least the text describes Slow Travel accurately!
Here are the 7 sins (each one a full page, and all featuring some product or company)
1 - "Can your anger" (a handpainted can from Peru) 2 - "Take the lazy way" (Slow Travel) 3 - "You'll be the envy of all" (7 deadly sin notecards) 4 - "Take pride in your pictures" (interesting... something you can do through flickr to get 100 little personal cards. www.moo.com) 5 - "A glutton for goats" (donating money to feed the world's hungry) 6 - "Get your greed on" (a piggy bank you can order with a random amount of cash in it) 7 - "The blush of lust" (makeup)
At first I wondered whether these were paid ads. It's kind of a strange feature, each one a full page with artwork. The Slow Travel one would actually make a nice poster.

I was a bit confused by the title as well. But, then I figured out that it was just a cute, attention grabbing way of describing ways to pamper yourself. cute article. I agree, Kathy. That would be a really cool poster.

Kathy, for some reason I couldn't get the moo link to work, but when I typed the same address in, it worked. I need some new business cards and this is exactly what I'm going to order.....so cute!
I LOVE Skirt magazine. There isn't too much content, but I always enjoy thumbing through, and the writing's mostly good. I missed the January issue, but the February is all about love, of course, and it's fun.
