I purchased a carry-on sized trolley yesterday. Now, the question is: If I manage to not exceed the carry-on weight limit (10 kg on Ryanair), and decide to not check the bag, will I still be allowed to bring a purse/tote/shoulder bag?
From Ryanair.com :
quote:
Ryanair allows each passenger (excluding infants) to carry one small piece of hand baggage on board free of charge. The hand baggage must not weigh more than 10kg and be less than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, in dimensions (restrictions apply from certain countries) Click here for details. For the safety and convenience of all passengers, hand baggage must fit underneath the seat or in the overhead compartment.
They do say "one small piece of hand baggage" - but does a shoulder bag count?

Annika! So nice to see you here.

I have flown on Ryanair a few times and I don't remember them being very strict with carry-on luggage. People had all sorts of over-sized stuff on them. I'm sure I carried on a luggage, a purse, and a shopping bag.

However, with the recent terrorism scare, I'd assume the worst and be ready to check-in your luggage. You just never know.

Hi Julia! Smile
It would just be so convenient to have a purse where I could keep wallet, tickets, lip gloss, water... you know, all those little things you don't want to dig into your suitcase to find. However, I guess I should leave some space in the suitcase so that I can fit the purse in there if needed.
The strict carry-on rules do fortunately not (yet) apply to Sweden-Italy flights, and it would be so nice to not have to check the bags.

Ryan has always allowed us a carry on + a handbag - should be no problem.

It should be spelled out in their rules. I have not used RyanAir, but other airlines usually say "a personal bag" or something like that - then spell out a purse or computer bag - plus one carryon.

But, we followed the EasyJet rules to the letter a couple of years ago and were told something completely different by the agent when checking in (either that or I really misunderstood the rules for what you could check/carry on).

Can your purse fit in an outside pocket of the suitcase, just in case you can only have one item?

No, because it doesn't have any outside pockets.. Frown But I'll make sure to be able to fit it inside if I have to - that way I can still have the purse as a purse all the way up to actually boarding the plane, and it's really on the airport I will want to use the purse anyway.

Thanks for your input!
