My wife and I will be going to Prague, then will go through Slovakia, eventually ending up in Warsaw. Our college age son will be traveling with us. He will probably stay in hostels, while we will stay in local hotels or vacation rentals. We would like to be able to stay in touch with each other locally without using our cell phones. Does anyone out there know if it is OK totake and use 2-way radios from the US to Eastern Europe? It seems like this would be the cheapest way to stay in touch. Any ideas?

We tried them with our friends in Florence, and they didn't work within even a few blocks (and these were expensive, multi-mile models). We were told it's all the thick walls.

Have a great trip - I was in Slovakia last year and would be glad to answer questions if I can.

Dean,
The real problem is that US walkie talkies are illegal in Europe. The frequecies are different and may be the same as emergency frequencies. See http://www.amherst.co.uk/walkie-talkie-international-issues.htm

Dean,

Pat& Henry are right... they are illegal. Best to get two cell phones.
