My stupid camera battery charger is "dual voltage" but the cord can only handle 110,idiotic design!!!! According to Nikon I can "easily find" the 220 cord, when I get to europe.I don't believe them, so I have to take one more thing(220/110 converter) and more weight in my backpack.
I have two converters, the much lighter one my wife seems to recall was not the right size, the newer one is about 1 lb,which I would rather not carry.Has the width between the prongs changed in the last 10 years?,it is virtually identical maybe one is .25 cm different width.RR

Until it drowned in Hurricane Katrina, I was taking my converter, purchased in about 1985, on almost every trip. Never had any problems and in fact, I took it for my camera charger for the last few years. Unfortunately I can't measure it for you.

I'm just going to try and find something lightweight and new and maybe even I will find a cord.I am going to contact Nikon and be really mad if the cord is not available. Can you imagine lugging a 3-4 lb $1000 camera and then finding out that you need to buy a new camera in Switzerland? I am not relying on them at this point.RR

Robert if you are bringing your converters , check out Radio Shack for the overseas plug pack.
It has 4 or 5 diff. plugs. I took the 2 plugs that had the round plug posts. My camcorder could use U.S. or overseas current.
I dont think the width between the plugs has changed.
You must be getting ready to go! I hate all the last minute things to do list

It's not the plug adapter that I am talking about,it is the two prog that goes into the socket. There seems to be a slight variability between the two I already had,so today I bought a 3rd at radioshack.I am bringing all three to Geneva, see what works and take the one that works on the hike.RR

Robert, from what I know you need a transformer for electronics--a converter for electrical stuff. Be sure to check this out. Here is a link that explains it: Converters/Transformers

Robert, this doesn't make any sense to me. Don't you have a d50? All the Nikon chargers are dual voltage and need no converters...just the adapter. I used my chargers all over (Italy, Spain, Peru, etc etc.) and have never used anything other than the correct adapter plug. If someone at Nikon told you otherwise, then they don't know what they are talking about (and trust me, they often don't.) I don't know anyone who uses anything special overseas.

Here is the idiotic thing the unit itself is "dual voltage" but when you look at the manual it says specifically the cord is not compatible with 220 volt!!! Here is a thread from a photo site Stupid Nikon Stuff.I called Samy's and they are not aware and as the thread says It is probably safe, but It's in the manual for some reason.RR

well, I wouldn't worry about it. Never heard of anyone having a problem, and I religiously read all the Nikon forums. The charger draws very little power.
