so....after looking and looking for days...and days...and days...I FINALLY found the perfect flight...great times, great price, etc. on the booking software ITA...but called the airline and they said they can't book it for me :-(

I've never used ITA before..how do I book/reserve? do I need a travel agent? is my fare going to be gone by morning when I can call one?
Thanks!!

Sometimes a travel agent can get this, but try Orbitz and Travelocity first. The fee will probably be about $10 more than on ITASoftware.com . Orbitz uses ITA for its backend database searching, so the results tend to match up.

That said, ITA is not perfect, so not everything it finds is bookable, but most often it is somehow. Plus, fares change so quickly that something available 5 minutes ago might not be now.

Sometimes a travel agent can help also.

Oh, and another tip - even if the Orbitz fare looks high, click on it anyway. Sometimes, the price goes up when you do this, but sometimes it goes down also. Quite frustrating, but all part of the "fun" of finding the best airfares.

thank you!!!!!!!!!
found it on Travelocity (+$33 in fees) - Orbitz had the same price...but not a good time (i.e. leaving Rome at 6am or something crazy ;-)

anyway...if anyone is in need...I got a flight from JFK-Rome in August :-) for under $700 with only one stop...been looking for weeks and it's the best by far I've fouond :-)
yippeeeeeeeeeee.
ok. now must sleep :-)
thanks again!

It looks like this is KLM from EWR/JFK to AMS to FCO.

I can find prices of $651 all-in for various August dates on the NWA.com web site . (If I had known this was KLM, I would have suggested NWA right off, but in any event, the important thing is you got your flight for a good price at convenient times. Excellent!)

Obviously this is a superb price for August - anyone who is still hesitating should jump on this, if the airports are at all convenient for you. I would guess this fare will disappear quickly.

BTW, for anyone traveling from the West Coast, it looks like fares are pretty cheap for us too. SEA to AMS to FCO roundtrip is $907 with all taxes in, for August dates on the NWA.com web site.
