I was about to buy some maps through Trek Tools, and I THOUGHT there was some sort of Slow Trav discount. There is still a click-through, but no indication of a discount.

Am I mis-remembering?

EDITED TO ADD: Well, ever impatient, I simply ordered the maps and asked for the Slow Trav discount in the "comments" box. Let's see what happens.

According to my credit-card website, they charged me full price + shipping and ignored my comment about ST discount. The maps are on their way.

Thanks. I'll send this thread to Charisse to see if you were *supposed* to get an ST discount!

I hope so, because I love Trec Tools. My only wish is that they would expand their inventory a little faster than they are.

So what does being an affiliate mean here?

If I click through from the link on Slow Trav, does Slow Trav get some small percentage of the sale? And what about AutoEurope, Telestial, etc? Are there (still) ST discounts? Does ST get a cut of the purchase or rental?

Being an affiliate does not necessarily mean that they provide Slow Travel members with a discount. Technically, it is a mutually beneficial relationship where a site promotes a business while receiving a very small revenue percentage (and often times do not provide discounts).

We screen the affiliates we take on and make sure they are good reputable businesses that we would recommend to our friends. Our relationship with the affiliates who have always provided discounts stays the same.

Rick Reyes is handling our affiliate accounts now and he will talk with Trek Tools to see if we can establish some sort of discount for our members.

Thanks, Charisse.

To clarify further and be more specific, do ST members who click through to AutoEurope still receive a 10% discount? (I think that was the %, but I may be wrong here.)

BTW: I received my maps from Trek Tools, in two packages. For some reason, although my full address with apartment # is on their invoices, they didn't put the apartment # on either label. And as my name was nearly obscured, the postperson just left it with the doorman. From the packaging, I think they are a very small company with a little home labelling system. (But yet not small enough that they responded to my question in their comments section.)

What are Trek Tools maps? Are they for walking or driving? What makes them special? Do they map certain countries better than others? Are they related to the the other topic on Google walking maps?

Trek Tools is a company that sells many good maps, such as the Touring Club Italiano and Michelin maps. Also, they sell some guide books.

So, they are a retail distribution company, not a company that produces maps.

Thanks for info and link for Treck Tools. I had always gotten my maps and atlases in a much more convoluted manner.
I am also interested in the answer to a possilble discount for autoeurope car rental. Since reading the very informative review on them in ST page, I will try to rent thru them. An additional discount!- only sweetens the deal.

I think their number one forte is the provincial and city maps of Italy. They have a deep inventory. The provincial maps are generally 1:100,000 to 1:150,000 and the city maps can be as detailed as 1:8,000.
I loved them for our exploration of Puglia a few years ago.
And yes, they are a small company based out of Columbia, Missouri.

Thanks, Charisse.

I'll have to check when Ellen and I reserve our car for October. I don't recall seeing anywhere to put in a place for AAA membership.
