Ever since I read about Janet using a pacsafe bag for her camera equipment here, I have been considering buying one.I am looking at a bigger day pack sized one to store our laptops, dvd player, camera, video camera etc when we don't want to carry them with us.We will probably just use them in the van RV or in our rental apt.I know nothing is fool proof ,but they seemed a good deterent that would give us some piece of mind as I can not imagine we will want to carry everything with us 24/7.

Campgrounds have security and are known to be extremely safe in Europe from theft, but we are carrying more valuables than most campers,so I was thinking this would make us feel more secure.( We are not use to laptops and just bought two high end ones and a new camera so obviously don't want them ripped off since our whole life will basically be in there for this years long trip).

So just wondering about others experiences with pacsafe have been or any feedback.

I wish someone would answer you, as I, too, am thinking of getting one of these to secure my rolling computer holder to my car on an upcoming trip. I'm just not sure what I can secure it to in a car I've not seen!

I used a small one just last week in London but in a hotel where I didn't have a safe.

It works well - you can really secure the top of the bag and you loop a metal cord around something immoveable. You need to carry the key with you after that to unlock the whole thing.

In a car with a trunk its fairly simple-- I attach the Pacsafe to the curved bracket that the trunk hinges on. Hard to explain but its the piece that attaches the trunk lid to the car frame. I just thread the cable through (up and over) this and back around. The cable end of the mesh is fairly long and easily reaches around.

In a hatchback its more difficult. It might differ from car to car, you'd just have to see, but there should always be something. For instance in my Subaru hatchback that I drive at home I can hook it through the metal piece that the seat latches into.

Sometimes its tougher in a hotel room---recently I stayed at a motel where the only place I could find to lock it to was the drainpipe of the sink!

Well I ended up buying it yesterday morning before I read these answers.I got a really good price on it and figured it was worth going for.Nothing gives absolute security, but I figure it will come in handy as another deterrent and give us a little peace of mind.

I already had 2 other pieces by pacsafe ( the little safe and the unisex metro bag)and I am not sure I will use them or not,but we will be in some high theft areas,so thought it better to error on the cautious side. The endless pickpocket stories, topped off by Even Rick Steves having 6 cars broken into and someone here having her rental home robbed in broad daylight with 15 family members in a country house just makes me see that I need a lot more awareness & precautions than I am used to in this country.

I bought that little door jam alarm from magellan and will get an alarm and mechanical theft blocker for the RV as well.None of it is that expensive & doesn't take up much space & may very well come in handy on our long trip around the world. It might all be a waste of money as I think a determined crook can get whatever they want, but most thiefs go for the easy mark,so hopefully this stuff ( Plus awareness & low profile) will make us less easy targets.

We will see.
