I've seen that happen before - the system cancels and rebooks instead of modifying an existing reservation. It's worth a shot to call instead of making the change online, but sometimes the rental company's system does the same thing.

This happened to me a couple of months ago. I changed the time by just two hours and it changed the quote to about $40 more. Can you cancel and start over on orbitz to see who has the best rate?
