Wow what a day that was.

We got lost finding the highway and finally got into Sienna at 9:30ish (so much for our 'early start'). Because it was market day we could not find parking. We somehow got 'trapped' in the labyrinth under the stadium that is used for parking. We persevered and found a spot below the walls and explored the town.

I took this picture before we climbed the tower. I don't think I could have held a camera afterwards! We arrived at the top JUST as the bells started to chime 11. Our ears were ringing for over an hour later . . . at least it wasn't 12!

When we got back down we were drenched in sweat. Mom proceeded to laugh at us. We proceeded to use her sweater as a 'sweat rag'. Ah, the joys of traveling with family!

I have this picture framed in my office along with photos of the grand canal in Venice, the pigeons drinking from the fountain in Sienna, and the Arch of Constantine in Rome - whenever work gets to be a bit much (never happens, right?) I just look up and I am transported back to a happier time and place . . . .

This picture was not included in the album (for obvious reasons). It is Paul just after he made his way down the tower (notice the sweat! LOL). He could still laugh though . . .

I am catching up on the photo of the week also. Ahh, what wonderful memories of Siena! Great shot. I know that "ringing in the ear" feeling. I have reached the top of a few towers right on the hour. What a jolt that can be. I have just started reading your trip report and am enjoying it quite a bit.
