I found this link by accident (who knows the strange highways and byways of my mind). Some of it I knew about but a lot I didn't. With gas at $8-10 in Europe and over $4 here in the USA it is something I think any traveler can use.

One of the people I worked with in Sacile and Aviano had an old Fiat 500. It was over 25 years old andwas in outstanding condition. He was planning bringing it back to the US when he returned. Cars that old don't have to meet the newer stricter import requirements. I have thought that would be a really cool car to drive around in.

Yes, there is a lot of focus about this in Norway. The gas price was about 13.5 kroner per liter yesterday (which is about 10$ per gallon) when I filled the car. I think I have read that you can save about 15-20 % by driving in a different manner. I try to think about this when I drive as it saves money and the environment...but then I have a tiny car that doesn't use much gas to start with :-)
