Travel Hyper Activity Attention Deficit Disorder

Have you heard the joke something like "I don't have attention deficit dis —look! There's a butterfly!"?

That is me with travel. It's more than a little ridiculous how I change my mind and bounce around the globe when deciding on a trip destination. It goes something like this:

I want to do a Mediterranean cruise for our 10 year wedding anniversary.
No, I want adventure. I want to go on the Trans-Siberian railway trip across Russia and Mongolia and China.
Ooh, if we're going to do that we should do an Around-the-World … where else should we stop? Definitely SE Asia.
Oh, airfare is too much. Let's just do SE Asia. Group tour? What about a river cruise in China?
I like this 16-day Princess cruise from Bangkok to Beijing.
Hmm, maybe a tour of Cambodia. Oh, look at this other tour in their catalogue. Transylvania sounds really cool!
I bet we could use Marriot points in China.
Oh, they're not doing that cruise in June of 07. I think we could do Bangkok on our own, and look it's only a 4-5 hour flight back to China or Japan. (Visit Amazon, buy two books on SE Asia)
FriendlyPlanet has some cheap deals to Asia. We could ditch the bus tour and do our own thing.

Ooooh, Holland America prices have dome down on their Greece, Turkey, Israel, Egypt and Libya cruise. Let's do that. Yes, for sure. (Go to Amazon. Cancel other order. Order Mediterranean cruise and Holy Land books). Read up on Libya and Israel safety sheets.

Tally up cost of cruise plus excursions plus tips plus …. Ok, maybe we shouldn't spend 10 percent of our annual income on this trip.

A rainy Sunday at home all day. I could write up my trip report from Italy, or I could surf around and find a more affordable Mediterranean cruise. Jeez, they all go to places we've already been. What about a week in Provence? I haven't looked at Untours in a while.

Ooh, wait, look at this Celebrity Med cruise. $1000+ less than the Holland America one and it overnights in Istanbul, and goes to all new places for us.
Yeah, I like that one. Yep, definitely. Email from Amazon – my order has shipped. Well, at least one of the books is still applicable. Anyone need a Holy Land guidebook?

After all this, we've come full circle, back to the cruise I bookmarked 6 months ago in my Celebrity catalogue at home. We've got a hold on it till my boss gets back and I can clear the vacation time.

Now we need to decide where to go before and after the 11 day cruise. Guess that will depend on where Delta can get us with our miles in June. Maybe Dubrovnik … ? Or Switzerland – I'd love to go back. Hey, doesn't Delta fly to Kiev now … ?

Did anybody else see that butterfly? Wink

Hummm, sounds familiar. I have your problem plus the "over extender" problem. As in, we are driving to San Francisco for 3 nights for at GTG, might as well spend a week somewhere in California, booked a week in Santa Barbara. Now I am thinking, since we are on the west coast, maybe we should fly to Hawaii for a week (Steve would then be a very happy person - he loves Hawaii).

But then we won't be home until August and I was thinking Switzerland in mid-August, but we have to go to Toronto in August, maybe we can spend a few days then fly to Europe from there? A few weeks in Switzerland and then France. But we are so close to Italy!! A few weeks in Switzerland, a week or two in Italy, a couple of weeks in France.

Then home. Or maybe we should go back to plan A and go to England and rent a house. No! We decided to wait on that. But, maybe we were wrong?

And, of course, the east coast US tour to coordinate with Kaydee's GTG.....

But I just finished reading a book about Mexico and it sounds fabulous! And I really do need to get some work done....

LOL Happy

Boy can I relate to this topic! It's like a little kid in a candy store - the whole world is just out there waiting to be discovered and explored!

The same thing happens to me when I go to a deli or restaurant that has too too many things on the menu - I jump and switch and waiver and decide and undecide and before I know it I want EVERYTHING on the menu, and can't seem to order a thing!

I do know that if I ever won the lottery, it wouldn't be too hard to decide what I'd be doing after I quit my job - TRAVEL for the rest of my life Thumbs Up.

TRAVEL for the rest of my life

I can relate to this one too! The more I research our very slow trip around the world, the more I think our trip may never end.Even with an open ended trip thats set for years, there seems to be not enough time to see all the things we want to see and do the things we want to do.

More adventures always await.I wonder if we will ever reach a satiated point.I know several who have been on multi year trips who still felt it was too short!

What a great "affliction" tho ,eh?
