Are we the last people left on the face of the earth who accept them??

Just said good-bye to very pleasant guests who were able to finally get rid of some traveller's checks bought in 2001 ! They said they have been trying for ages and these are people who travel a lot (at least once a year to europe).

They nearly fainted when I said sure we'd take them. Now I am wondering if these things have a sell-by date ??

Kevin,
my bank here stopped changing travellers cheques 2 or 3 years ago... they said that they may do it but this would mean sending the cheques to the main office in the region and not being sure that they were ok until 1 or 2 months later... and they implied that it would have been a gread hassle for them to take them and would not be happy to do it...

Sort of an off the cuff comment. why did they just not bring them to their bank at home and deposit them 7 years ago! Whatever!
Kevin, where are you going on vacation this year? RR

Giulia -

My bank is not too happy either. Always take a mini-conference every time I come in with checks for them to figure out what to do !

Robert -

We're off to Piemonte later this year and then I think probably back to India once again (yes, we are addicted)... and of course, I trip to Florida to see the grandparents (my son's that is)...

Kevin,
I hope that you're sparing some days of your winter holidays for our next GTG degli osti e delle ostesse (Innkeeper and "Innkeeperess" GTG) that we're thinking to have somewhere in Liguria sometimes...

Giulia -

In fact, when I said Piemonte, I meant Piemonte and Liguria. We're stopping for a few days on the way over in Castelvecchio de Rocca Barbena and the 3 days in Genova to visit friends.

But why not a second trip ? Especailly for a little GTG. I'm still regretting having missed the first one ! And it's only about a 4 hour drive (or 3 hours driving à l'italienne) !

Well, back to the topic of TC...I still buy some as "back up" when I travel to Europe and the U.S. and I've never had any problem using them anywhere.

We've both had our Visa cards rejected in Europe even though we notified the Visa company about our travels prior to our trips. And this is why I carry a few TC.

My DH uses an ATM card as well, but there is a daily limit and sometimes you can't get money from them when you really need it.
