I was surprised and disappointed that AA has a very limited policy with regard to transferring miles. I have 48,000 miles in my account and was counting on transferring them to my husband's account that has more miles. AA informed me that it can only be done on-line by an independent website and it's $50 for every 5,000 mile transfer with a limit of 15,000 miles. The agent said this was not a new policy but it certainly was news to me.

She did say you could now book one way segments at no extra cost or mileage than a round trip so I can use my miles for a segment.

Using miles has become more of a challenge every year and it's what dictates where and when we'll be traveling at least to Europe. Keeping my fingers crossed for 2010.

My information here is old, but I do remember AA being difficult to deal with.

When my husband died, over 10 years ago, I transferred miles from his FF accounts into mine. Except for AA, the transfer was simple; I recall that the AA process was onerous and expensive, and decided not to bother.
