I will be in Spain for 12 days and I do not want to be burdened with too many unnecessary items. My problem is that I will be spending three days in Pamplona during the crazy "Running of the Bulls" festival where I am told the dress code is white ( and I should expect to drenched in champagne, sangria and god knows what else). My friend in Spain just called me and told me to bring something "nice" because we will be attending two or three dinner parties with his friends ........ Oh my god,and they all look like they've just stepped out of a GQ magazine! I don't want to over pack, nor do I want to feel like I just fell off the turnip truck either ....... I'm just at a loss as to what I should bring?
The rest of my trip is fairly simple: Madrid for a day and a half to visit some old friends, San Sebastian, Bilbao and hopefully, Biarritz.
Any suggestions from the fashion mavens who also happen to be packing experts would be highly appreciated!
I had the same question as Ginger! If it does not have to be white, go to Chicos and get one of their "Travelers" outfits. With a change of shawl, scarf or jewelry, you can make it into three different looks, and pack it in a ziplock bag!
If it must be white, take something you will not miss after red wine has ruined it! Then read the "Menopause" joke on the joke Board.
I know, it sounds strange to knowingly wear white, and knowing that one's outfit will be drenched in food and drink. I have no idea why this tradition exists? It just does. I bought some really cute capris at Ross, but I'm thinking I really don't want to ruin these things and don't have the money to be throwing things away ........
I guess it might be time for a visit to the thrift store.
I thought the idea is that you wouldn't get pelted with the tomatoes and sangria if you were wearing white. But I guess when things get wild you're bound to get something on you. The good news is that white can be bleached - if you pick something sturdy like cotton, that is. So, I don't think it necessarily will get ruined - a little Clorex bleach pen might be all you need.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the crazy goings on in Pamplona during the week of July 6th - July 14th, please check this out: www.sanfermin.com. By the way, for those of you bargain hunters like myself, check out your local Ross store. I bought two pair of light cotton capri pants ($9.99 each), and a pair of blank linen (yes .... linen!) palazzo pants ($7.99), and a very cute, white (gauze /linen?) skirt ($10.00). Everything is light weight and should dry relatively quickly.
"What would I do"...well, here goes... I'd find a very inexpensive white outfit and plan on throwing it away after the food fight if it gets ruined. Regarding the "nice" outfits, I have a little black dress that is wonderful paired with pearls, looks completely different if I drape it with a fancy scarf/shawl, and I would probably take a pair of black palazzo pants and a glitzy top for the third event. One pair of nice black satiny sandals would work with all three outfits. And the items I mentioned would not wrinkle and not take up much room in your suitcase. That's it!
The Pamplona "dress code" probably refers to the white shirt and red bandana scarf (worn around the neck) that has come to be considered de rigeur. I'm sure those could be bought when you get there. Don't quote me, but I don't think this "uniform" applies below the belt.

Bebe, I was looking at the website that you gave and I came across this:
quote:
As well as this basic gear, many people put on a kind of traditional shepherd's smock over their white gear. Members of the different "Peñas" all have their own distinctive-coloured smocks. If you don't belong to any "Peña", black is the most popular colour as it can absorb a lot of dirt and grime.
So, there you go, another option...
