I am posting this here as it may apply to any overseas trip.

I am planning a trip Christmas/New Year 2009/10.Delta has a fare which is good LA/Atlanta/Dakar/SA.Can I schedule a layover in Dakar for the same fare?

alternate, If the airfare is 300 more to Paris, would you rather stay overnight there? I am guessing the answer is yes. Stay near airport or in town? RR

When I booked my Toronto-Copenhagen flight with BA, online last year, it gave me the option of connecting 24hours + in London to go on to Copenhagen.(same price, but said I'd need to book a hotel for the overnight).

However, in your case it is best to make the arrangements through an agent.
And no, I wouldn't take the night in Paris for extra $300.

I think you might have to use the multiple destination option to "force a layover" of time - how long were you hoping for, 1 night?

Kim thanks, It worked. Paradoxically the fare goes down. It's really hard to guess how much more Christmas would be but that is the only time we could afford both for my office (slow) and the extra week Peg gets.

I think I would change the days to make a longer layover on the way back but thats a day and a half on the way in, its too long doing it all at once don't you think? RR
