Just want to thank everyone on this site. I have asked some questions that some might consider overly anxious or obssessive but I notice there is no mocking or poor attitudes. It seems everybody here asks and answers with a great attitude. We all seem to have one thing in common--wanting a well prepared trip and a good experience. I'm glad I found you all!

Hey frankie, if you're not busy next March 12-14th, 2010, why not join us at the San Diego Gathering Big Grin

Hope to see you around the message boards!!

Well, being pedantic doesn't mean one can't also be compulsive. Happy

But seriously, frankie, as a trip gets closer and closer many of us obsess ---- right here on ST ----- about the tiniest details, and about difficulties that may occur only when it snows in midsummer.

...we gladly accept obsessive-compulsives here; it's part of our obsession and compulsion to be friendly to all personality profiles! [kidding...]

Yeah, it is great that there are some forums where the people have a great attitude. There are so many forums out there were some threads gets totally destroyed by trolls, my mocking, by name calling etc.
It is nice being prepared for a travel but in my opinion it is also important to not over-plan - but I guess we all travel is slightly different way :-)

Yes. You should see me right now, trying to choose a Swiss hotel as if my life depended on finding the most perfect one within my budget...

There should always be a balance. Always good to be prepared and proactive for your travels, but it's also refreshing to go with the flow.

I vacationed with a very OCD "older sister" type friend of a friend. Everything, everyday, almost every hour had to be planned. I was exhausted by the end of everyday. Luckily, we designated some days as unplanned, lay on the beach days. See, always important to have a balance.

Ah, but if you WORRY OBSESSIVELY in advance about whether or not you should plan, then you don't actually have to plan. Garlic Man

Talk about obsessive...
I got up a 2AM to call Delta for our FF seats.
They told me, by the way, that the Skymiles International desk is only open for new bookings from 8AM til 10PM Eastern time.

So, I read until 4, went back to sleep until 7:58 so I could call them.

The things we do for travel...

I'm leaving tomorrow for San Diego, then off to Rome and Umbria on Friday.

Obsessive is: I was packed COMPLETELY last Saturday! Blushing (except for the laptop...)

Welcome to ST!

Interestingly enough this question arose years ago on a different forum. Are we compulsive, frightened or just thorough? And if so why?

My response is - we are thorough. For many of us a trip overseas represents a major expenditure not only of $$$ but also very precious time off. I can always earn more but when those 4 weeks are gone then I am stuck in my miserable job for another year until I earn more time off.

So Frank - join your fellow OCD travelers in being thorough. And remember our 4 step program.

1) Plan trip
2) Go on trip and have a great time
3) Come back and do a trip report and answer questions from other travelers.
4) Plan next trip

While we do have a program I should warn you nobody here wants to get healed. Smile

Reminds me of an old joke about conjugating verbs.....I glisten; you perspire a bit, dear; he sweats like a pig. Here it could be "I am thorough; you are somewhat compulsive at times (and being from the south, you would add "Bless your heart"); he is obssessing over meaningless details". Smile
