Thanks to fellow STer Jon Johnsen for forwarding this fun web link to me - Metros of the World.
I was surprised to see that I've ridden on metros in at least 22 cities around the world! (have been in a couple of other cities with systems, but long enough ago not to be able to remember if we used the metro). What is YOUR count?

I count 21 from the list of icons shown. Mostly because I did so much traveling to large US cities for business. If I count those outside the US I'm down to 9, just like Kim.

I thought about 8 until I looked at the icons - and it turned into 23! (helped by the fact that they count the multiple services for each city and I was just counting a city as one to begin with.) Brings the memories back of the wide range from the supremely comfortable and efficient to the "I'm never going back down there again," !

11 for me--I'm surprised it was that many! As a graphic designer, this was a fun exercise in seeing how many (not so) different variations of "M" and "T" you can make. My favorite is Naha (is that Japan?). Maybe not the most evocative design for public transport, but humorous.

17 for me from that list. I've not been to Asia so my rides have been in Europe and North America.
I initially thought that this was strictly underground transportation, but the Amsterdam and the Helsinki systems are listed and they are not underground. I wonder why Seattle, which does have underground bus lines and Portand Or are not on the lists.
That was fun! 46 for me. We are going on our third year of traveling Europe, so have added many during our open ended world tour. We travel mainly by RV or live in a long stay rental, but end up using lots of Metro systems.
Hubby is an expert at figuring them out quickly and our 7 year old has become quite an expert as well on mass transit and finding her way around.

I don't know about Helsinki, but the Amsterdam metro does run underground. Almost none of the underground runs under the central city, though--it's mostly in the outlying areas. I'm pretty sure there's another underground line currently under construction in the center, too.

Thanks for the correction about Amsterdam. It made me think more about Helsinki and I remembered that it also is underground. I have ridden the trams a lot there but not the underground.
