i have a BIG problem with my US clients.... many of them seem to think that Italy and the US are running on the same time... if you live in New York, you find my listing on Slow Travel while surfing after dinner.... you CANNOT call me on the phone: It's 4,30 in the morning in Lake Como!!!... and things can even be worse with people on the west coast... i suggest some calculations before you get on the phone and maybe scare some old Land-lord to death!: Italy is 6 hours ahead of the EAST coast and 9hours ahead of the west coast (I think... correct??) Actually it is not reallly that big a problem... but when you have some relatives that are sick, night calls can be scary...
Gio' give your cell phone number to all your family and disconnect the landline in the night. I actually never got a call from a prospective guest from abroad, but it has happened to have Italians calling for rooms at 12:00 at night (!!!!)
I have a home office (in California) and used to work for a company based in Philadelphia. Until I did what Letizia suggests, I was frequently woken up at 5am with phone calls from the corporate office.
After I learned to switch off the ringer at night, I just had to remember to check my messages first thing in the morning. And turn the ringer back on.
