I love your list and these two items too too closely describe me:

5) You have at least one heavy-duty photo album for each trip you've taken, but the last few years of your "real" life scarcely fill one tiny album.
6) Your bookshelves groan under the weight of all your guidebooks for past, future, and dreamt-of destinations. Three months before you leave, the only books you read and films you watch are set in your destinations. If you watch foreign films in the language of the country you're visiting, you may be in advanced stages.

All of the above plus:

You get excited when you see a commercial featuring a place you've visited.

You listen to Italian or French news just to hear the language.

How about- 1) you get mad at work when someone "interupts" you when what you are doing is checking websites about travel locations and/or Slow Travel talk 2) you save every catalog you get with travel items just knowing that you'll need this or that for the trip you have planned 5 years from now after trips for year 1,2,3, and 4!

- 15) The school you teach at knows you won't sleep over on camp so they ask the dates of your next year's Italy trip so they can book the accommodation for while you're away.

I pity the relief teacher - but what can one do? Big Grin

I have an enormous stack of catalogues at home for that reason! In addition to the two accordion folders I have crammed with brochures I collected at the New York Times Travel Show last year. Smile

I recently received my CitiPremier elite card and I've been a charging fool Eek For years and years I've had credit cards that really aren't benefiting me at all, so I decided on this one. The points will add up quickly the way I've been going Blushing

Love your blog and your travel pics Thumbs Up

Thanks for the chuckle!!

Hi

Hehe...a fun list indeed. Many of the point on the list fits the description of my wife and myself :-) I see that Norway is missing on the map of countries visited. Don't have any plans when it comes to seeing the Norwegian fjords and mountains? Wink

Hehe...I hope I didn't scare people away with the picture of the smalahove (see thread http://slowtalk.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/8566036302/m/6241059651 ). The picture was removed to prevent people from being shocked. Now you have to follow the link to the see picture :-)

Pokey - between Marriott points, Hilton points and Delta miles, we're paying for only 2 out of 10 hotels nights and one of our two tix on our Oct trip this year! Smile

Gard - Norway is for sure on my list, just don't know when. I'd love to go sometime in winter and go dogsledding. I like cold weather.

I'm a translator, so listening to the news in Italian and Spanish (and of course French, but that is the main language here) is part of my job - keeping up to date with current affairs vocabulary - but that list is a scream. In years past when computers were more primitive, I've actually had clocks set to here and Italy time...

Now there is this great gizmo: World Time Server

And how it travels is one of my first considerations in the purchase of most any garment...

My name is Kelly and I have been a travelholic since 1986, the year I finished travel school. I am no longer a travel agent so I pay full pop like everyone else....just for the record in case you thought I was getting any freebies.

We returned on May 27th from a wonderful trip to Tuscany and Umbria. I've been tracking my frequent flyer points since I got back as I am just a few miles short for two more tickets to France. I use my corporate and personal credit cards to pay for everything conceivable...and according to my statement I will have enough points at the end of the month to seal the deal for next year.

I drive a second hand car and my house could use a new deck...we have promised that after Dordogne we'll have to cut back for a year or two to spend money on some other things that need attention. I'm sure that is a promise made to be broken.

Its all about priority and travel is #1 for me. Its like air...can't live without it.

"Hi Kelly!" LOL

Yes, we too make promises every year to cut back "next year". Didn't work out too well this year with two weeks in Italy in March and a quick jaunt to Dublin and Prague coming in October.
Well, it's blown all to h3LL next year, with an 11-day Med cruise and a pre and post stay who-knows where. But we *have* to cut back in 08, as we want to move into a less dodgy neighborhood. Maybe somewhere in far eastern Europe where things aren't as expensive ...

t-mac...I guess it's like New Years resolutions....you're never expected to keep them but you feel somehow obligated to make them.

Enjoy Prague...its a magical place! A Med Cruise sounds nice too!!...see now you've done it. You'll have us all us addicts whipped up into an Amex spending frenzy. If only a 12 step program existed....

When you invent business trips to get your fix until your real vacation arrives...and you just had your last vacation less than a month ago. I am going to Orlando for 3 days in July (hurricane season)...and to New York for 3 days in August..hotter than heck in both places!! But just happy to be planning to go somewhere sooner than next May.

The Dordogne has me really frustrated as there is so little information floating around. It is easy to get excited about Tuscany because you can read 100 trip reports and see 5000 photos.

I definitely found myself nodding "yes" to most of your list. Last year I bought gorgeous tassles in Florence to use with window coverings for French doors in my dining room. Those windows are still bare, because we "can't afford drapes", but I've been back to Italy, with another trip in Sept.. Maybe on next summer's trip to Florence, I'll find fabric... Roll Eyes, or maybe we'll go to Le Marche instead!

We are in the middle of putting our home back together after Katrina flooded it with 8 ft. of water...but I've spent more time working on our trip to Italy & France in September than the house! This storm taught us what we already knew...you can lose the "stuff" but you can't lose your memories...make 'em while you can.
BTW, I lost all my travel books and brochures, and some of our travel photo albums, which prompts me to plan more trips so we can take more photos...a good plan?? LOL!

Jennifer...I'm so sorry to hear that you were affected by that terrible storm. You have a good sense of humour about it but it must have been devastating to actually live through it.

Needing a new deck seems so trivial when I know there are people that have no proper roofs over their head to this day...I have been told that getting a contractor to fix anything is a major challenge still.

Thank you for that reminder...I know that was not your intention but how soon we forget how lucky we truely are.

You are so right. Thanks for the reminder. I'm so sorry to hear that. Not to minimize your other losses, but do you have digital back ups of any of your photos? It must be heartbreaking to lose your photo albums.

Most of the travel albums I had moved to our office which was safe. In fact, each year at the beginning of hurricane season, I lug bagfuls of photos to our vault (our office used to be a bank!) along with all the valuable paperwork. I did lose some of my photo albums, but not the trips that David and I shared since we've been married. The wedding photos were safe, our childhood pictures were, too. We lost our high school and college yearbooks and various framed photos around the house, but most of them were duplicates and we'll eventually replace them. It's just been a long, slow process. We've been living at our office since last September and I'm really ready to be back home. But, we have it so much better than most. All around us there are people living in those horrid FEMA trailers...but they are so grateful to have a place to live.

On a lighter note, though, we have taken some killer trips since the storm. We knew that the only way we'd make it mentally is to plan for long weekends away from here every 6 weeks or so...we've been to Aspen,Montreal, North Carolina mountains, Destin a couple of times, NYC, and, are planning this adventure in Europe during Sept/Oct.
