I found out over the weekend about the Qantas sale and I would love to buy a ticket to visit Australia in August but I still don't know if I'll be able to take the time off from work so I can't book anything before the sale ends. Does anyone know if the price difference will be drastic starting tomorrow once the sale has ended?

Thanks!

Dino

Well the sale has ended and the prices have gone back up. Does anyone know if Qantas should have another sale soon or should I book now anyway?

I think it is really hard to predict sales especially with today's travel economy. You may want to set up an alert with Qantas and one of the websites like Kayak so you can be notified of price changes.

I think they may. We got what we consider a super deal last month one of those 24 hour things. Fares have even dropped about 50.00 since then. In making our arrangements people over there have told me that Q is really hurting as of course are many airlines. Pug it in and watch the fares daily then go for it. We did.

Did you particularly want to fly Qantas? Qantas is often not the best with specials (I consider their international fares to Europe are very expensive for what you get) so you may do better looking at one of the other carriers. I had a quick look at V Australia and they've got some fares during August for US$275 LAX-syd & US$331 syd-lax on some days. I've no idea what they're like as an airline - just thought the prices looked good!

There was an article here in the last few days about how all of the airlines flying Oz-USA are struggling with the downturn in passengers - Qantas in particular has had business passenger numbers drop significantly - so there may well be more specials around.

We went with Qantas because only 3 fly out of SFO, Qantas, United and Air NZ and at the time they were all much higher, like several hundred dollars higher. Going through LA is a royal pain so we went with Qantas it was $459+tax which made it $501 all in direct. As most of us know you can go totally crazy trying to get the lowest price once you hit a level your ok with I for one buy. As I said its dropped about $50.00 since we bought.

Thanks everyone. I ended up booking with Qantas two weeks ago. Leaving on August 11th from LAX. Smile

It'll be my first time in Australia and I'm beyond excited! Spending a week in Sydney and then another week in Cairns.

Thanks! I don't think I'll find Sydney cold though. It was around 14 degrees here in Ottawa this morning and it was warm enough for me to wear shorts and a polo shirt haha.
