Thanks! I think they missed Big Sur and pacific northwest in the United States ( which are spectacular) and I hear the same about South Africa and some of the Italian coast ( but have not been).But still its a great site for us since we are doing "road trips" around the world,so I have tucked it away in my trip file.Good one!

A very interesting article. I have to admit to having driven none of the routes. I have done the Amalfi coast from Sorrento to Salerno, and the drive around the Cape peninsular near Capetown. If these 5 routes are better than the two I have done, then they must be truely awesome.

Well, and it depends on one's preferences, doesn't it? How about the American Badlands or Bryce Canyon? The Great Smokey Mountains? The northwestern and northern coasts of Sardinia, and the northern coast of Scotland? Hard to beat the Canadian Rockies.

But probably one of the draws of the Guardian list is that those drives would be relatively untravelled. Fall colors in Vermont in a good are so pretty you could just cry, but the TRAFFIC!

Gard, thanks for the URL. This just keeps adding to the list of reasons for traveling to Norway, which will eventually happen.
Everyone note however, ahem ahem, that the Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler is on that list of most beautiful road trips. (we Vancouverites are shameless promoters of our region)
