While on Saturday night, everyone will be transported to the Fort via white open-air trolleys, and Sunday brunch will be in the heart of the Historic District, our Friday night venue at the Gingerbread House will require you to arrange for transportation. There is no public transportation that goes near the Gingerbread House, but there are other options for everyone.

Many coming to the Gathering will have car access, so ride hookups can be arranged right here in this thread. Ann (AppalAnnie) has already offered to take on two (possibly 3) more riders in her car.

Another good option is to share a taxi - it would be quite inexpensive.

The Gingerbread House is situated in a very safe area, and walking to the Gingerbread House may be an option for the hale and hearty (it's a couple of miles from the Historic District), but it would not be a good idea to walk that far in an unfamiliar city in the dark.

Cal and I are staying at the Green Palm Inn on E. President Street. We would definitely be taxi kind of people. Anyone nearby who wants to share a taxi can let me know.

I'll probably be looking for a ride, but I was considering taking the free shuttle to Forsyth Park and walking the rest of the way. Something to consider for this: will the Gingerbread House event be mostly a stand-up affair? (That is, needing to stand for hours after walking a mile.)

Hi, Andrew,

The free shuttle is a good idea if you don't mind walking the rest of the way from Forsyth Park, but you should know that it stops running at 7 pm, so you would have to factor in return arrangements.

Also, there will be plenty of seating, but I suspect that most of us will be moving around throughout the evening in multitudes of conversations!

I'm not staying at The Green palm Inn, but I would love to walk over and share a cab. Maybe we could start a list so we'd know how many taxis were needed.

I'm happy to walk or share a cab...
I'm close to The Mansion, so anyone in that area would be good for me! Anyone else staying in Tammy Jo's properties near Forsythe Park?

Brenda, Bill and I are staying in one of her apartments on Jones street. We would love to share a cab. We will have a car but as parking may be a problem, I would rather not move it any more than necessary. The cab idea sounds good.

I'll be on East Gordon. I'm willing to walk there with someone and share a cab back. Anyone?

OK, Earline, sounds like we have a plan! We arrive in Savannah at 12:16 that afternoon, so I would imagine arriving at the Green Palm around 1:30 or so.

Mindy, I was wondering who else was staying at the Green Palm Inn. Sounds like we'll have a fun group! I'm looking forward to seeing you again - can you believe it's been a year since the GTG at williamf's (and I was still living in Texas)??

I don't know about parking on Jones St. but there's plenty of parking at the Gingerbread house.

Yes. I spoke with the nice gentleman there yesterday, and he said they have a large lot behind the house. If you'll be coming from near the river, as Bay St., you'll have to go south on Whittaker and then turn left behind the house, as many of the other streets run north.

Mike and I are at Staybridge Suites and will not have a car, so would be glad to share a taxi (or a car if someone else staying nearby is driving).

Roz, I'll be just about next door to you at the Hampton Inn, so I'm tentatively interested in sharing a cab.

Mindy, how wonderful! ColleenK and I will get to meet face to face. I am finally going to get to meet the person who was my inspiration for my trip to the Koine School in Firenze. We stayed where she stayed, ate where she ate, went to school where she went to school. ColleenK in person! Wowza! April Fool

I've got to confirm my reservations there tomorrow now that I have the time worked out that we will be arriving. I figure about 3:30 - 4:00.

Looking forward to it immensely!

Oh boy, hope I don't disappoint you when you meet me in the flesh Earline! Wink Grin I guess GMTA or at least we share the same tastes in hotels and food. I have been so busy with work and family stuff lately that I am just starting to think about Savannah but I am sooo looking forward to meeting everyone, relaxing and experiencing some southern hospitality. Not too long now!

Andrew and Roz,
I am staying either at the Hampton Inn or the Sturbridge Inn and would love to share a cab with you both. I'll be at the Hampton if a non-smoking room opens up; if not, I'll be at the Sturbridge. I believe they are close and in walking distance, one from the other, so either way, I can cab-pool.

Sherril, do you mean Staybridge? I think that is right across from Hampton, so if you and Andrew are solo, that would be 4 in the cab (with Mike and me), which should be fine.

I don't know if anyone would be interested, but I was just reading about the Savannah Pedicab which might be a fun way to get to the Gingerbread House. The drivers are all young and you pay them what you want.
They are students for the most part. Check out savannahpedicab.com or the # is 912-232-7900.

Roz,
Yes, Staybridge (Sturbridge Village is a reproduction of Colonial times and it's in MA). Anyway, I'd like to take a cab with you and Mike an Andrew, if that works out.
