Just as I left the Sunday brunch at Vic's on the River today, Mindy had taken a really bad fall down a short flight of stairs and her right foot was hurting her quite badly...between Gail and Colleen and myself plus Nancy and her husband, who is a retired urologist, we wrapped her foot in ice, swabbed her forehead with a cold iced cloth, nourished her with sips of ice water, held her hand and talked her through it, while the manager of Vic's had a coniption fit and wrung her hands severely.
How are you Mindy? Does anyone know what the end result was for her? I'm so worried about Miss Mindy, so if anyone can give me an update, that would be wonderful. Get well, and heal fast, girl!

Well, thanks to colleenk (and her husband Jim who graciously gave me a ride home from the airport) , I am home safely (although our flight from Charlotte to Boston was over 2 hours delayed. which gave us time for a few glass of wine). My ankle is much better NOW, although it still hurts like the devil. I am indebted to Colleen for pushing my fat a$$ around in a wheelchair through airport terminals. Think of it as "Driving Miss Pokey"! We laughed about the whole situation...... what else are you going to do?
I had about 3 1/2 hours back at the Green Palm Inn sitting with my ankle elevated and iced. I am also indebted to Pauline and Steve who traipsed througout the squares of Savannah to find me an Ace bandage and a cane. No luck on the cane, but my other 2 angels, Suzanne F. and hubby Tom DROVE outside of Historic Savannah and bought me a cane and some ice packs. I will call Urgent Care in the morning to see if I can get in to see someone to look at my ankle. I'll at least get it x-rayed (will I go blind if I xray myself) THANK YOU all for staying with me and for consoling me when I fell. I know there were a few minutes when I was merely trying not to pass out from the pain. I felt so woozy and light-headed, and hadn't even had a drink You were all amazing and I appreciated your kindness and concern SO MUCH. John, thank you for examining my foot and ankle.
I am so tired right now, but wanted to be sure to answer this post. I'll keep y'all posted on the final result...sprain vs. fx.
Great big warm southern kisses and hugs to everyone there. Do you think Rob or Wendy captured my gracefull fall on film?
I'm so glad to find this post this morning, and Mindy, glad to know that you made it home! No surprise that there were Slow Travel angels there to help you!
By the way, I did see Rob leaning over the railing to take photos of you and the others down on the landing. So I think, yes, it's all captured on film!
Mindy - yikes! Glad you made it home ok and we'll hope for a clean xray. I'm sure it was comforting to have as many people fussing after you as it appears there were! Take care.
Mindy, I have apparently passed my crown as the of mishaps on to you. I'm truly sorry. I kinda wanted to pass it on to somebody I didn't like. You're too nice of a person to be the recipient.
I just felt awful when I read about it. We left rather quickly after the brunch because of a long drive home plus the fact that I had to get something to eat!
You're fortunate that you did indeed have all the ST angels around you. They all deserve s!
Only Mindy could have sustained such a mishap with such good humor. Despite being uncomfortable (to put it mildly)she managed to make me laugh all the way home and of course made new friends along the way. A couple of glasses of wine at the airport as we waited out our delay helped put it all in perspective. In addition to the ST angels that supported Mindy through this trauma, the incredibily kind people of Savannah from our inkeeper (Diane of the Green Palm Inn) to the cabdrivers and check in staff at the airport added to our sense of being grateful for true Southern Hospitality. Here's a picture of Mindy with wheelchair and cane at the airport.
Most people like to make a Grand Entrance, but you made a Grand Departure (well, not so grand for YOU)! I'm so glad I met you in Savannah. You are so much fun, and we were all sorry to see this happen to you. I hope you have a quick recovery.
Mindy,it is such a relief to know you are safely home, as I've been worrying so about you. And you know how much I sympathize with your mishap, since I had such a similar fall, resulting in a broken arm. Jane and I and a few others are thinking of starting the Slow Trav Klutz Club. You've passed the membership initiation!
Take care and heal fast; they say laughter is the best medicine, so with your great sense of humor you should be well on the way to recovery.
Mindy, it was so nice to meet you and spend time with you over the weekend. We are so sorry for your fall and hope for a speedy recovery!!!!!!!!!! Kathy and Lou
Oh, Mindy. I was so sorry to hear about the fall ... but there was a lot of laughter coming from the stairwell ... You are right "whatelse are you going to do"...
I will check in later to see what the outcome of your doctors visit will be, but getting ice on it immediately and getting it raised will lesson the rehab by 40-50%.
Yes indeed, Rob did get an image and I am uploading here.
(I am not going to upload our images from the event till we get home - this she says now, but there were sooooooooooo many wonderful times and terrific people that I might get a few up, later. Can't tell you how many we took, but it was a lot, between the two of us.)
Get better Mindy, it was great meeting you - et all.
Wendy and Rob

Sorry for the small size, when I went to upload it was 101kb and we are only allowed 100kb. I will upload the original into the group gathering album when I do my uploads, later...

Best wishes from afar, also. I took a similar fall a few weeks before the GTG in Assisi last summer and was still walking with a limp at the get together. I also will check in later on this thread, hoping to read the best possible news of the foot/ankle injury.
While in Italy, I followed the Savannah news many of you posted to share with us. Thanks for "including" us in that generous way.
I was happy to read that Randy (whom unfortunately I do not know) won Palma and Brad's and my (Genius Loci Country Inn) A Taste of Umbria Prize.
Thank you all so much for your kind words! I just got home from the doctor's and I'm thrilled to say that I DID NOT "break a leg"! Just a wicked bad sprain. It's all shades of wisteria purple right now and very swollen, but the good news is that my MD instructed me to take the rest of the week off! Actually, I'd much rather be at work so I could walk off these Savannah pounds! I'll have time to get my photos in order. I certainly won't be doing laundry anytime soon as my washer and dryer are downstairs in my basement.
With so many people looking at my foot, I'm glad I had a pedicure before I left for Savannah!
