There has been a little conversation about getting together in Savannah next year to see and do the things we simply ran out of time for earlier this month.
Leslie has offered to assist from the shadows, so to speak! Thanks, Miss Leslie...we appreciate any help you can give us.
Just a few thoughts...please add in yours, as well...all are more than welcome:
~ Book one or two of the historic homes and/or inns that were well-liked this last visit to Savannah...I found that Luxury Living Savannah has some really perfect places, with each bedroom having it's own dedicated bathroom, and great kitchens for hanging out and stuffing ourselves silly. My Forsythe Garden House was enchanting and I loved the location...close to Kroger's, Forsythe Park, The Mansion, plus a boatload of great along the walk downtown. There is also the Green Palm Inn that people loved. Any others?
~ Leslie, Earline, Mindy and her mom, as well as Nancy and Kendall have all indicated interest in making a return trip to the lovely lady Savannah. Anyone else thinking about it?
~ February or March timeframe...how does that suit you?
~ I'm hoping for a week or two, and calling this my winter vacation, if I can get the coverage for my office. How about you?
So, any thoughts and ideas are gratefully accepted and more than welcome. Let's talk about this...I'm already looking forward to it!
"I had the joyous experience of visiting Savannah not too long ago and it took my breath away." ~ Bobbie J Brenda
Yes, me me me!!!! My mom and I were discussing this recently and she definitely wants to go! Not sure if I could do an entire week but most likely 4-5 days.....okay 6 days, maybe 7.
The first 2 weeks of March look good to me. I'd be interested in staying in a huge huge house, as long as mom and I had our own beds and bathroom. it would help with expenses....although the breakfasts at Green Palm Inn were to die for. Either or....what a dilema, too many nice places to choose from!
I can't wait. I'm even excited to arrange a cab ride with my buddy Ed at Adams Cabs. For sure he'll remember me,
Looking good, Mindy! I just spoke with Tammy Jo and she's happy to have us back! She will give us a very good price for any of her lovely houses and/or apartments that we need. I'm thinking one large house with bedroom and bathroom combos for each.
We also will need to book accommodations soon, because she tells me that her properties book up quite quickly.
So, shall we tentatively plan for late February- to early March, remembering that Leslie said that February is a better rate for accommodations, so that is worth taking into consideration.
NancyL, Kendall, Leslie, Earline...anyone else?

Brenda, Karen & I just love Savannah & going back next year sounds like just too much fun but could we interest you in splitting the time with Charleston? After Savannah we spent three days there in a hotel over looking the river with a great view. From mid March to mid April you can tour about 10 to 12 homes and several gardens. There are museums all over the place to see along with Ft. Sumter plus really good restaurants; the town is just eaten up with cute! There are Plantations to visit also and we will have our car for those who want to join us. The only thing I ‘m not sure you’ll find in Charleston are ORB’s, then again I didn’t know anything about then till this last trip to Savannah so who knows.
Here is a picture of just one of the hundreds of homes in the historical area.

My humble thoughts- Charleston is wonderful. Can also be done in a day trip or two. How about spending the first three or four nights in Savannah for initial gathering than those that are interested can go on to Charleston?
Personally, I have very limited vacation time There are some people who were not able to be in Savannah this time around who would like to gather next year.
Jen, That's awesome! I miss you, too! We had the best time in that hot red caddy. That was a glorious day for me.
Mac and Karen, You're not the first people to tell me about Charleston, so it must be a beautiful place, also, 'cause that name keeps coming up in conversations! Let me think about it a little bit...I'd likely want to spend most of my time in Savannah, and will hopefully be taking a couple of weeks off work to make this trip. So, a day or two in Charleston is not impossible for me. Here's the thing...it's such a grind of a trip for me to get from here to Savannah and area, that I'm quite happy to stay put for the first while. Just lets me catch my breath and relax, after what is for me a very tiring trip. Crossing our 2 countries from north-west to south-east seems like it takes forever. It's quicker for me to fly to Rome!
Leslie, I'm delighted that there are people who missed this year's Savannah Gathering who might be able to come next year! That's wonderful. I think I will ask to have this thread duplicated on the GTG topic, so it is visible to lots of people. Any other area of the board where it should be seen?
This is too cool!
"Savannah is a gracious Georgia city basking in beauty, riches, and history. Radiant in her architectural splendor, she flaunts her stately mansions and beautiful homes, many of which boast impressive, ornate lace ironwork." ~ Marilyn F. Wine Brenda
Mindy, We hope you & mom have a chance to make it to Savannah next year as the fun bordered on overload!
Leslie, Two days in Charleston is enough to taste what is there & I like the four nights in Savannah as the night life there in the “old town” is GREAT. We have no idea of the night life in Charleston other than it’s was not as “lively” as Savannah the one late night we were there last fall. Charleston is not “the party citta` “of S. Carolina unlike Savannah so a two day history trip will most likely make everyone happy.
Hope everyone who missed this year will be there next year!
Brenda, February sounds good to us as the NATS(itty bitty flying bugs) are not in full force then. We didn’t know there were a BITTING type of Nat till we read it in the local paper. We had itching bumps for a few days but they were not a real problem so if early March works out for everyone anti-bug spray works wonders.
We too like the idea of a large house; the Presidents Quarters were ever so nice but pricey.
The trip for us is a 16 hour drive with a stop over night at Birmingham, Alabama so we know what you mean about the one night of “REST” before everything starts.
MoJen,
Karen & I may get a chance to run up to MO later this year and would love to have a GTG with you; I want a good look at Chris’s Italian oven! We’ll keep you posted.

Brenda and I are looking into renting a big house that will hold about 20 or so people, one hotel and one B&B. If you are interested in the house, it is on a first-come basis.
So far, we have commitments from me & my family for the carriage house, Brenda, and Mindy (Pokey) and her Mom.
Please post if you are seriously interested in staying at the house: Forsyth Park House
There are also other rental properties near this location as well. We are working on discounted prices since Slow Traveler's are such great guests!!!
Hi all...I'm enviously following this thread as I wish I could join you all for the big reunion in Savannah. Alas, I cannot plan that far ahead and secondly am trying to save my pennies to see my daughters in far away places. I just wanted to note about the bug bites since Mac brought it up. I hadn't heard of anyone getting bitten other than myself which was disconcerting when I got home and found so many bites just on my forearms. I went to the dermatologist for prescriptions but am glad (?) well reassured now that I wasn't the only one that was bitten. Anyway will keep listening for your plans for next Feb. My heart is there! Hello Kendall,
We are booking the entire property Brenda is going to stay longer so she is going to reserve the lower garden apartment.
I think everyone in main house is staying Thursday-Sunday (3 nights, 4 days) but I need to double-check. That was the vague plan, but needs to be firmed up more. I am waiting for more input.
How long did you want to stay Kendall and would you like a room in the main house?
If space allows, I'd love to bring my 30-something year old daughter with me. I've promise her a trip to Savannah! Wednesday - Sunday sounds good to me, and I'd like to stay in the Forsyth Park House "compound".
The same time consensus needs to be agreed upon in order to rent main house. It would either be Wednesday-Sunday or Thursday-Sunday. I think if you want decide to come earlier than there would be other options outside of main house for you
Please state which one you prefer please. Majority wins.
Also note that in the main house, there is only one room with twin beds. All the others are queen and king unless someone want to take trundle-bed in a parlor that can be locked off.
I would like to stay from Wed.-Sunday. If mom and I decide to arrive on Tuesday, we can get a room for Tuesday night elsewhere (maybe with my buddy Ed from the cab company) We would prefer twin beds....(just because I was in her womb doesn't mean I can sleep in the same bed with the woman)
well, he was the first gentleman in Savannah to call me "sugah"...I believe I got a case of the vapors! (Ed is an fat 'ole cabbie with high cholesterol but we had a lot of fun the 2 times he "cabbed" me)
