I'm going to be in Savannah a little earlier than most, and I will have a good idea where everything is located by the time y'all arrive.
I'm thinking it might be a cool thing for anyone who is coming to Savannah for the first time or traveling solo to the city to have a buddy who knows the lay of the land with whom you can go to various places and planned events!Wine

So, if you are concerned about finding your way around this glorious city or if you are worried about knowing how to meet with other Slowtravellers, please post here, and I'll be happy to help!

My guess is that there are a lot of wonderful people who will be in Savannah for this gathering, and they will be more than happy to meet you and have your company for any of the activities.

I'll be delighted to be a buddy...anyone else? Gelato

June, I thought so, too!
I felt like there will be people who are new to the city and traveling solo, so this way we can all be solo together! Wine

kendall, that's exactly what I need to know!
I'll make a list of people who would like to be in touch with someone, and then we can get together with each other. That's what these get-togethers are all about, so this will work just peachy.

I'll arrive the week before, and will be an old pro at knowing where everything is, by the time you are in Savannah (...heavy accent on the word "old"Big Grin).

So, what I need to know is this:
What would be most helpful for you, kendall? Would you like a phone number to call one of us when you arrive, or someone to meet you at the airport or at your accommodation when you get there? OR, would it be better to have a friendly face to greet you for chilled Savannahian 'libations'...someone to hang out with after you get settled in?

I'm quite happy to meet with you and anyone else who would love to have a guiding hand to help you find your way around.
I'm sure there are lots of other ST'ers who will join in welcoming you to this great gathering, so you'll likely have the happy problem of having too many new friends, rather than too few! Cool

I love the idea! I'm traveling solo to Savannah, arriving by air around 2 on Friday. Would love to have a buddy! I'm not sure the best way to meet up...maybe by phone after I get to the hotel. I'm probably renting a car (I have a free weekend rental from Avis), so I'd be happy to give anyone a ride from the airport.

Thanks for the great idea!

Kendall,

Just wanted you to know that I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn last weekend and found it very nice. The people working there were very helpful and the location is right next to "City Market"

I give it a Thumbs Up

Jan,
That's good to know. I was afraid I might be too far out from the action. I mistakenly thought some of the other accomodations had already booked up, and so ended up there. I've booked everything myself for this trip (I usually use a travel agent)and did everything backa$$wards. Good experience before trying an overseas trip though.

Thank you so much for posting!
This is just what I was hoping for...people who might want to hang with someone and someone to hang with!
We can keep this thread going and I'll make sure everyone has a buddy, as wanted. I surely don't mind setting time aside to get together.

Kendall, there's no such thing as messing up a perfectly good trip to Savannah, bassackwards or otherwise, I think you did just fine! You have accommodations and your flight booked..what better?
This is good practice for your Italy trip, you are so right. Good for you!

Topping for everyone's information...
Would anyone else like to have someone to meet with, to walk or go sightseeing with?
So far, we have a few people offering to buddy up if you need or want to have a partner.
Kendall and Anne, thank you so much for offering! I'm also around.
