There was a discussion in another thread about having some type of identifier, like luggage tags, etc., so that we could recognize each other on arrival or in transit.

I bought some Mardi Gras beads that I think will work great! They are "dice" beads...no special meaning there, I just liked them. I'll bring enough to go in the goody bags, but since I'm not arriving until that Friday, that may not be early enough. If anyone wants them early, just send me an email with a mailing address, and let me know how many are in your group. I'll send them via snail mail. I'll mail them in early March.

Then, look for travelers wearing dice beads! They are medium length (33"), in various colors (purple, green & gold, of course, and blue and pink).

And keep your fingers crossed for sunny skies next Saturday, when my parade rolls!

Ooooh, Anne!
That's so totally cool...I've often seen photos and TV coverage of people wearing their Mardi Gras beads, so now I get my very own? That's so nice of you! Not Worthy
Purple's my favorite...save me one, please?

I'm going to be in Savannah several days earlier, before the rest of the ST'ers arrive, so if you want me to take them for you, I'd be happy to, if that helps.

Well, I just MIGHT be able to find you a special pair of long purple beads...seeing as how I have 12 cases of beads/toys/stuffed animals by the door, and that doesn't count the "big" order I haven't picked up from the bead store yet! Smile Wow, I have a lot of stuff (but its for 3 of us to throw).

I sent an email to Palma to see if I can mail the beads somewhere so they'll be there early. If you want yours before you leave for the trip, just send me an email, and I'll mail them to you Smile

Anne,
Where did you find so much great Mardi Gras glitter? How thoughtful...we'll be stylin' in our beads!
One tiny question...we don't have to follow the current tradition of flashing our you-know-whats, while wearing our Mardi Gras beads, do we? Garlic Man

Brenda,

I've been meaning to ask this for ages, so I'll do it now. Where do you find all those great quotations?

Hi, Ann, (without an e!)
I just google the topic of the thread, then wade my way through the many quote sites and look for the ones that I know have great quotes and no POP-UPS! The bane of my existence...pop-ups on websites! Should outlaw those little suckers. Complain

For this thread, I googled 'quotations Mardi Gras' and then browsed through the various sites until I found what I thought was appropriate. It takes some time to find the right one!

I have a few sites that are my go-to sites...Quote Garden, Daily Celebrations, ThinkExist, Wisdom Quotes, IndianChild...these are the main ones I use.
Then, I also have a stack of books of quotes and sometimes I use them.

I say that it's my way of saying what I wish I could verbalize by using someone else's words! Kinda like cheating, but for a good reason!

Now I'm googling 'quotations quotes' for a quote about quotes!

Well, all those beads that the tourists (and locals) go home with? Those of us who ride buy them. There's an entire industry in NO based on Mardi Gras....float builders, costume designers, bead shops (yes, there are many, many places to buy beads in bulk). Depending on which parade you ride in and the quantity and quality of your throws, riders can spend from a couple of hundred to several thousand dollars on throws (I'm in the way lower end of that bracket!). I recycle beads...those I catch this year (while watching parades, I'll throw next year. My 18 yo niece is riding with me this year, so she gets all my "used" beads (to help her out with $$). There's enough so that she doesn't have to buy any. Then I bought new for me.

As far as the flashing goes, I flash Metairie style Smile (Metairie is the 'burb where I lived for 25 years, and where I ride...more of a family atmosphere for parades). We flash by wearing blinky beads and boas Smile

While at parades in the city, I've found that standing under bimbos on ladders works well for catching throws...they get a lot of stuff thrown at them, but they don't catch very well Smile

I also love your quotes!!

I had no idea that there is a whole other business for Mardi Gras...but now that you've explained it, that makes perfect sense. Cool! Cool
Sounds like a wonderful time and something I'd love to be a part of.
Bimbo beads! Good on ya, Ann! A question...the step ladders are for the girls to be higher than the rest of the crowd? So they get more throws?

Theoretically, the ladders are for kids. Every family has one...you take a regular wooden ladder, and put a seat (big enough for 2-3 kids) on top. Has a bar on front so they won't fall out; covered in carpet so its cushy & warm. Mom or Dad stands on the ladder for stability and to help catch and protect the kids.

Then, people figured out if I just stand on an 8 foot ladder, I'll catch more (particularly those well-endowed who don't mind leaning over a bit!) I personally think that's fairly obnoxious, since they tend to set up the ladders at the curb, instead of behind the crowd. Effectively blocks everyone's view. But hey, that's all part of it, and I just make sure I get to the front and catch all that the bimbos drop Smile

You should come ride one year...its a blast!

I'd love to, Anne,
that would be a wonderful thing to do.
AND, you owe us a joke, it's your 100th post, girl...get yourself over to the jokes section and post your best!

Thanks for the skinny about ladders and low-cut T-shirts...you're smart, catch the overflow from yourself! Martini

My cheeks are hurting from smiling so hard, just reading this thread. How fun is that!!! I can just see how you could really get a lot of beads, by catchen what they drop or don't catch. I would love to get a string of purple beads. I am landing thurs morning. I would pay for you to send them to me, just let me know , or will there be some one in Savannah, early, that we can pick them up. What a great idea!! You saved the day on that one. I was hoping that someone would come up with some kind of an idea, so we would "know each other " !

Sandra, just send me an email with your address, and I'll drop them in the mail. I am sending a big bag to be there for the goody bags (have them in the car to send today), but don't mind sending some early so you'll have them in the airport on the way!

Okay, Brenda, didn't realize I was at 100..I'll go post a joke (because I'm really bored with creating the slides to go with my class, so time for a break!)

Ann, Oh thank you, I didn't realize they were going to be in the goody bags. I will just wait and get mine there. I must have been laughing too much reading the the previous posts last night and missed that.

See you soon !

Just a quick update...MG was WONDERFUL! The weather stayed perfect, despite all the dire warnings about severe weather. In fact, I'm nursing a sunburn right now, despite applying sunscreen a couple of times today. 85 today...who'd have believed it was early February!!!

Caught tons of beads and stuff Smile

Off to Spain and Italy on Friday...see everyone in Savannah!
