A FEW QUESTIONS I SHOULD KNOW THE ANSWERS TO BEFORE WE GET STARTED ON SATURDAY MORNING.
These are questions I ask everyone who steps over the threshold into my classes.
“No” is a really good answer. But the truth is much more important. And this is primarily, ‘do you see a doctor for …’
1- Do you have any cervical issues? – bones in neck 2- Have you had a whiplash in the past ten years? 3- Do you have any thoracic issues? – the part of your spine that the ribs attach to 4- Do you have any lumbar problems? Other than just a cranky-achy lower back? 5- Do you have any herniated or bulging discs? If so where? 6- Do you have any sacra iliac/upper pelvic problems? 7- If so, do you have sciatic troubles/sciatica? 8- Do you have scoliosis? Pilates is wonderful for people with scoliosis, truly amazing what it can do to correct some curvature of the spine. 9- If you are over 50, how is your bone density? Have you had it tested? 10- Do you have any shoulder/elbow/wrist/hip or knee troubles – joints? 11- Are you under the care of a doctor, and if so for what? 12- Are you pregnant?
So, if you could send me a PM with the answers that would be terrific. I ask these questions because, again not all exercises are for all bodies and there are modifications for most of the exercises we will be doing, and then there are some exercises just not designed for some peoples bodies and they should take option number one – take a break and rest.
BTW- taking a break sometimes is the best option. With my back I don’t do everything and I often have to modify a move. It is okay.
Remember, with Pilates it is the quality of every move - not how fast you do it nor how many you do. Fewer are better - again, because it is the quality.
I look forward to your emails and seeing you in just a few, on the floor. Remember, if you can, bring a mat. Certainly, at least a couple of bath towels to create a makeshift mat.
Yours,
Wendy

Thanks, Wendy...info in a PM for you! Again, thank you for offering to do this. I love my Pilates...only wish I had a local class to attend. This will be a treat.

Wendy, Have you thought of having us sign a waiver? I am familiar with this in all fitness and exercise classes I take. I don't mind signing one, if you think it's a good thing for everyone. You could e-mail one for everyone taking the class. Let us know, please?
As well, would several large bath towels work in place of yoga mats? I can pack my mat, but would likely only use it a couple of times, so maybe a towel would be ok, do you think?
Another question...I'd like to have an idea as to how many people will be coming to my apartment for breakfast before the class. I love good food, but I don't want to overbuy, if only a few of you are coming. Please let me know in the next few days, if that's possible. Thanks bunches!
Looking forward to Savannah...

Thank you Brenda for bringing the subject of waivers up.
Yes, I am working on a waiver that I would like/will need to have signed by each participant. I have found one, though the wording is scary and my class won't be.
I can't figure out how to e-mail it and get it signed over the web, so I will bring forms for everyone. I can post the waiver here for everyone to read if that sounds right. What do you think class?
And yes, I know I would like to know who is going to participate and I have only received two questionaires back. Could everyone interested get back to me and then I can let Brenda know how many are planning on coming.
Regarding mats/towels, mats would of course be best - I am bringing my Averex mat - but two towels might be enough protection for your back, especially if we are on a carpeted floor. Did that make sense?
I am really looking forward to our Sat. morning together ladies.
And gentlemen? Are there any men out there who might be interested in a Pilates class. Any golfers out there? Any tennis players? Equestrians? Any husbands who like to do things with their wives?
Ladies, would you like to invite your counterparts? Just an idea.
Okay, we are three weeks and a day away. Whoohoo!!!

Wendy, please don't worry about it. For me, totally unnecessary.

Brenda, I'll be there. Hope I don't make a fool of myself. I've never done Pilates. I do do Yoga, though (sort of).

Aline, are you there? I was reviewing my original postings and you were interested in the class.
To both Kathy and Aline, and anyone else interested, as I wrote in the earlier postings you need not have done Pilates before. We will not be going fast - I just watched a video and the girl demonstrating was going so fast she was almost a blurrrrrr. Not in my class. I go slowly and therefore more effectively. And this also makes it much easier for a beginner.
So, please come and I look forward to those who are attending.
Wendy
PS- sorry for the horrific typing errors in the earlier thread.
