I’ve been researching a variety of different things to see and do while in Savannah…luscious shops to browse in, delicious restaurants and cafes where you can stop and have a bite of something yummy, and particularly out-of-the-way places to eat, shop and to learn more about the area…here’s a few of the cool things I’ve found so far:

Back in the Day Bakery ~ my personal favorite! This lovely bakery has incredibly creative owners…Griffith and his wife, Cheryl…and they have a fantastic philosophy, “Slow down and taste the sweet life!” Everything at this amazing bakery is made from scratch, the bread is best the day it is baked because there are no preservatives in it, the owners serve a delectable lunch and they take great pride in providing good-for-you food at a reasonable price. Cheryl’s cupcakes are enough to make Paula Deen cry! I’m heading there the day I arrive and I’ll go back daily after that, until I leave!CakeGelato
Buttercream and Roses, Cheryl's blog, will keep you reading for hours.

Classic Caddy Tours ~ This is one of the BEST interactive websites I’ve seen in a long time! If you love old caddies, great ‘50’s and ‘60’s Rock ‘n Roll and an innovative way to see Bonaventure Cemetery, Tybee Island or any of the other interesting locations that this company delights in showing to you, then take a look! Joanna's Dancing Man If you do nothing else today, spend a few minutes on this site ‘driving’ the caddy and turning on the radio, selecting your favorite song, rolling the windows down, starting the engine and windshield wipers....and then d-r-i-v-e, baby! Cool
Really truly…try it!

Dolphin Watching & Savannah Historical Tour ~ Take a 1.5 hr. narrated boat cruise along historic River Street, past the Waving Girl, Fort Jackson and Fort Pulaski.
Then, enjoy the excitement of watching Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins play around historic Tybee Beach.
As well, the tour takes you past the Tybee Lighthouse and Cockspur Island Lighthouse, before returning you to River Street.

50 Reasons To Visit Savannah Scenic Tour – Step right up, ladies and gentlemen! You can take this scenic tour right here on this website! It is free, there are no crowds…you are in the peace and quiet of your own home. so grab a cold one and enjoy!

Gates and Gardens Walking Tour Want to see some beautiful gardens behind some incredibly ornate garden gates in the residential areas of Savannah? Take this Gates and Gardens walking tour!
For a couple of hours, let yourself be led through some of the most exquisitely landscaped yards and gardens of Savannah. You’ll come away from this tour with the knowledge needed to create your own amazing garden…or, you’ll feel like a total and complete failure as a gardener! Either way, you’ll walk off those residuals from your calorie-laden lunch at The Lady and Sons! Pig

Angel’s BBQ ~ “A little taste of heaven that’s been through hell! From finger-lickin’ pulled pork sandwiches to delicious sides like greens with peanuts, you are in for a special treat when you step inside this locally owned and operated establishment.” I say YUM! Star

Russo’s Seafood ~ The recommended fish shop for fresh fish, seafood seasonings and advice on preparing your catch of the day! Thumbs Up

99 Rules for Living in Savannah 2007 edition …too funny! And, likely all true.
Some libations, y'all? Martini Martini

Listen to the spirits talk!
Is this true?
Who knows!
The author swears that she recorded Danny Hansford’s voice, or someone’s voice, with her voice recorder while standing at his grave near Bonaventure Cemetery. If you read down to the small blue font in this article, click on that section and you'll get to hear the recording of the ghostly words, issuing forth... Big Grin

Here are a list of haunted houses in Savannah...You can click on the link under each story, then listen to the audio and watch on video what is purported to be ghostly activity within the walls of the houses.

Is this for real? You decide for yourself, and maybe plan to add these homes to your own personal nighttime tour, taken very late, just before or after midnight in the garden...Garlic Man

Savannah Off the Beaten Path ~ The very best website for great finds in the Savannah area! I spent over an hour on this site the first time I checked in here. I’m sure you’ll find something of interest on this fabulous little website. Wine

Savannah Squares Tour ~ And, last of all, a little pertinent information for you. Here’s a look at the squares that make up the focal point of the Historical District. This might help you in planning your excursions each day...a little history is a great thing.

“Simply said, we don't buy pre-mix, par-baked, or scoop it from a bucket and say we made it...our Moms would slap us silly if we did.” ~ Griffith and Cheryl, Back in the Day Bakery

You are so very welcome, Sherril!
I also love love love the caddy tours and wish there was more time to do everything I want.
I'd like nothing better than to take a day, book a tour with them, drive up the coast in a
huge sexy honkin' ol' caddy convertible, with the top down, wind blowing through my long, luxuriously platinum blonde tresses...Joanna's Dancing Man
...uh, wait.
A moment.
I'm not blonde.
Got a little carried away with the visual there.
Sorry about that.Blushing

Back to the subject at hand...
Check out this great set of photos from the Caddy Tour site. Bonaventure Cemetery images, mostly reflected in the waxed-and-shined-to-perfection hoods and trunks of the caddies! Now, that's bitchin'!

They also give a tour of the salt flats and marshes that intrigues me. The basic cost is $80/hour, 3 hour minimum trip. So, that's $240 for 3 hours.

Anyone wanna go with me to split the cost on a caddy ride? It would have to be on a day when there's nothing else packed in to the schedule. I actually was going to arrange a caddy tour of Bonaventure for anyone wanting to go, but there are so many things available, that I didn't want to add anything else into the mix!

Looks like I have some free time on the schedule here for a caddy tour of something or other:
~Thursday morning and afternoon
~Saturday afternoon for a few hours
~Sunday afternoon, after the brunch.
As well, I could go earlier in the week, if anyone is around on the previous Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I'd be happy to book a few hours to just hang out, seeing what's out there. I'm going to e-mail the company and ask about their tours!

OK, we have a full group for one of the Caddy ragtops, for a 4-5 hour "A Little Bit of Everything" tour with Geoff at Classic Caddy Tours!

This begins with a guided driving tour of the city of Savannah, then we head out to Bonaventure Cemetery for a look at the magnificent statuary and marble stonework, the gorgeous landscaping and the graves of the rich and famous.
After Bonaventure, we'll cruise out to Wilmington Island, drive along the back side of the island to see the architecture of the homes in that area.
Geoff recommends taking time to stop at some of the historic forts along the way, ending up at Tybee Island for dinner at the Crab Shack.

If anyone else would like a tour with Geoff in one of his amazing classic cars, give him a call at 912-856-1000 or email him at info@classiccaddytours.com

We are splitting the cost, so it is not that much for each person. 4 people sharing makes it quite affordable and we don't have to drive, buy gas, pay car rental...its all done for us! Joanna's Dancing Man

I truly think this is the most fun website I've ever seen...try it for yourself!
Get behind the wheel of the caddy, turn on the radio to some luscious old '50's rock 'n roll, slide the keys into the ignition and start driving down the streets of Savannah! Really, truly...you can turn the wipers on, honk the horn...so fun!

"Welcome to Classic Savannah Tours.....classic cars for private hire!
Glide through the Lowland Empire in a piece of automotive sculpture.....and history!
Our cars are equipped with heating and air conditioning.....and an electric top!
Rain or shine, enjoy a memorable tour through Savannah.
Bring your i-pod! All Historic Tours of Savannah are conducted by licensed professionals. Rates from $30 per person or $80 per hour." ~ Classic Caddy Tours

Hi, June...
We are booked for Sunday afternoon, right after the brunch is over. I called Geoff yesterday, made the arrangements with him and he's more than happy to do this for us!

I'm not leaving for home on Sunday, so I thought this might be a great way to wind up the time in Savannah.

I think it is a fantastic way to see the area, because there are only a few people riding along in a gorgeous old Caddy convertible, just hanging out with Geoff...
Top down, hi-power sunscreen on, hat firmly in place...sounds like a winner!

I bet there are a few people who might like to see the area this way, so if you are interested, try posting about it here...I did and had people contact me right away, so we're in like Flynn!

"Enjoy a brief diversion around some of Savannah's most beautiful inner suburbs. Continue past the mansions on Victory Drive to Thunderbolt, site of an ancient Indian village. Arriving at one of America's most photographed riverfront gardens, hear tales of some 'residents' in the beautiful and famous Bonaventure Cemetery." ~ Classic Caddy Tours website
