Since this is my first GTG, what should I pack? I am getting excited...only wish we could make it to Palma's next month too...

Jen, and anyone else who is wondering...

The events are casual. Think slacks or skirt and top, or if it is warmer...capris/crop pants and top.

Friday evening, though it is cocktails, it is NOT DRESSY. I might wear a skirt or slacks with a jacket. Saturday, at the Fort...very casual. Jeans/capris would be fine. Think what you'd wear to a BBQ. Sunday brunch at a nice restaurant...up to you, but again, be comfortable. You are among friends! This seems to be the idea at all the GTGs I've attended. Hopefully, we'll have great weather! Hope that helps.

Is the Friday night event at the Gingerbread House inside, outside or both?
I noticed Palma mentioned wearing a jacket.

And generally is the temperature usually in the 50-60 degree F. range in the evenings in Savannah (beginning of April)?

Thanks,
J.

The Gingerbread House party is indoors, but there is a large garden area with seating, so people have the flexibility to go outdoors.

Here's a historical weather table for Savannah for the month of April that goes back at least into the 40's. The average low on April 4th has been 51 degrees F; last year the actual low was 65. Sunset on April 4 is 7:47 pm.

Fingers crossed that the weather will be very pleasant, but probably best to be prepared with a jacket or wrap. When Jan, Leslie and I were there last January, we were out during the day without jackets.

For me, it'll be casual jeans, T-shirt/shirt and jacket, because there are some really full days that weekend, and I don't want to be rushing back to my apartment to change, every few hours...so what you see in the morning's what you'll see all day long! Star

If there's going to be any jazzing up, it might be for the evening get-together at the Washington Square house with our glorious organizing committee and then to the dinner after at The Mansion.

Hope this helps, Jen!
Dress casual and comfortable and be yourself...I have no plans to bring anything other than mostly casual clothes, because that's what I travel in. Comfy, comfy, comfy. AND bring good comfortable walking shoes, 'cause you don't want a blister or sore feet...Savannah's the walkingest city!

Kathy, that average weather chart is great! Looks like it could be warmer rather than cooler.

I'll also bring a warm something...fleece vest, pashmina, snuggly sweater...that sort of thing.
I will pack light, because of the room needed to bring home the goods! Shopping and so on, you know Wink Grin

Brenda,
What about shoes? What are you bringing? Any sandals?

And is the Fort dinner - inside or out?

I am thinking about this now as I put away the cruise clothes, get the dry cleaning back from the most recent trip and get back into wearing the winter gear.

The Fort dinner is outside, though we will be sitting under cover.

Since we will be there after the sun sets, everyone should bring some sort of jacket, sweater or wrap, just in case it gets cooler.

Hopefully we'll have a beautiful sunset over the river. The sun sets at 7:46 pm.

Shoes, June...
Likely my GEOX and a couple of pair of comfortable flats and pant boots.
No heels, dress shoes or anything like that, because I'm expecting to be walking a lot from the apartment to everywhere else. I am not sure if there is a public trolley service or not, so I am coming prepared to walk my hinney off! Joanna's Dancing Man

Kathy...
...and bug repellant! I've read a few bits of info about the biters that getcha in the ankles after the sun goes down, so I'll have my little squeezy bottle of my trusted Shaklee's Basic-H for keeping the little critters from eating me alive. I get quite severe reactions to bites, so it's best not to tempt the fates! Big Grin

See you in Savannah!

Usually this doesn't start until May--with the warmer weather, but you never know.

It will be good to buddy up when walking back to apartments/hotels at night...10pm.

The trolley looks like it stops by about 7pm. Anyone know?

I think I'll be bringing some bug spray anyways.

Does it bother those with allergies like the perfume does?

June, the free trolley that tours the Historic District does stop running around 7pm. May I suggest that for transportation to the Gingerbread House (Friday night's venue), if you are not driving or carpooling, to take a cab. It's probably a little too far to walk, and especially late at night. It will be relatively inexpensive, because it's really not that far. Sometime next week, more information will be sent out everyone who is attending the Gathering, and we will provide you with all the info you will need.

May I ask, can I purchase a bottle/spray of 'bug-be-gone' or whatever it is called ffrom someone here?

They just love to devour me. When we were in Colorado Springs in Feb. with snow on the ground the one and only bee found my side of the car and came on in. Luckily, I was not stung, but if the bee had its' way I would have been. So, having written that, if there is one biting bug it will find ME!!!! (And then we are doing a Panama Canal trip, so I could use de-bugger).

Thank you.

Wendy

Down here in Texas, we generally don't have a problem with bugs until it gets hot, as in June.
I assume it's the same in Savannah.

Brenda, where do you get this Shaklee's Basic-H?

I have not seen anything like this in our pharmacies here. Maybe we can get some in Savannah if we need it.

I notice the temps. (forecast) ranging from 60's to 80's during the day and in the 50's at night. A couple of days it is calling for rain.

Nancy, it doesn't matter. If there is only one biting, nasty, mean and/or horrible creature it will find me.

Shaklee is sold by representative only I believe.

Any reps. out there?

I'll bring extra for both of you.
Sorry for not explaining, Nancy. Wendy's right it is a product sold by home business owners, like me! Big Grin
Good stuff. I'm not wanting to get into a Basic-H infomercial here, so I'll bring a couple of extra 4 oz. squeeze bottles with me, if you like. One for me and one for everyone else to share.

I really dislike using anything with DEET in it, 'cause it makes me sick, a huge headache and all that good stuff. So, after much searching, I found an organic product made by OFF! It also makes me a little green around the gills. Finally a friend told me about Basic H and I tried it. It works for me, just not for hours and hours, but maybe for 3 - 4 hours. That's good enough!

Promise, promise...I'll bring it!

About mosquitoes, by Mark Twain...
"He said that two of them could whip a dog, and that four of them could hold a man down; and except help come, they would kill him..."butcher him," as he expressed it.
Referred in a sort of casual way, and yet significant way, to "the fact that the life policy in its simplest form is unknown in Lake Providence, they take out a mosquito policy besides."

He told many remarkable things about those lawless insects.
Among others, he said he had seen them try to vote.
Noticing that this statement seemed to be a good deal of a strain on us, he modified it a little: he said he might have been mistaken, as to that particular, but knew he had seen them around the polls "canvassing."

Brenda, please bring a tube for me too, and I'll pay you in Savannah. Summer in Texas is "bug serious".

Wendy, I agree. 'Better safe than sorry.

No problem, Nancy!
I hate the bites and the swelling that happens to me, and the bugs lovelovelove me totally. My daughter and I can be sitting side by side outside, I'm covered with the darned things and she's sitting there, all lonely because they don't like her. Roll Eyes

I'll pack a few small bottles of Basic H. It is non- toxic and there is no reaction to it for me at all! Joanna's Dancing Man No charge, 'cause I buy it by the litre/quart and this will be 4 oz. squeeze bottles. If it works for you, I'll give you the info for ordering more for yourself!

We also get no-see-ums here, as well as black flies. Nasty little creatures. Nasty!

“We hope that, when the insects take over the world, they will remember with gratitude how we took them along on all our picnics.” ~ Bill Vaughn

Brenda, please for me Not Worthy.

Rob always says he's the runway, as those nasty, mean biting machines make their way to me!!! And suffer I do.

So, if you could bring a bit/bite for me I would truly appreciate it. Especially with the Panama Canal to follow Savannah.

Thank you
