In addition to the priceless gift of meeting new ST friends and reuniting with ST friends from past GTGs, I am happy to report that I brought back a few other treasures (or booty) to help me remember Savannah. Usually, Palma is the champion ST shopper but she was so busy with the details of the weekend, I may have just outshopped her! Someone had to step up to the plate.
Pictured below are: a lovely hand-dyed silk blouse and belt from the SHOPSCAD store on Bull Street. This shop had lots of beautiful items made by past and present art students. A necklace and earrings from the Metals and Paint store across the street from the Lady and Sons restaurant (many STs browsed in this store as we awaited our tables at Paula Deen's temple). Mindy got a great ring there too-perhaps she'll post a picture of it. A ceramic fish plate from Paula Deen's store (I seem not to be able to go anywhere without buying ceramics ). A hand made eggshell Christmas ornament depicting Savannah scenes at Christmas on the River. Pretty notecards and soap at the Savannah History Museum, the site of our Saturday gathering. They very kindly kept the gift shop open for us so I had to reward them for their efforts. And a sweet watercolor painted by a female artist at City Market to add to my travel wall collection in my home office.
Some of these items were gifts, some I can bear to give away and they all will remind me of a fabulous weekend in Savannah! Anyone else make purchases in Savannah that they love?
I have no picture but I can tally my shopping in Savannah:
3 1-lb boxes of pralines and chocolates from River Street Sweets to bring home to the kids (2 will travel with me next week when I see them). And a few small boxes for my principal, who kindly allowed me the time off, two days after returning from our spring break.
3 aprons from Paula Deen's for my sister, cousin and I to wear for Passover seder (imprint: The Lady Loves To Cook).
Notecards from the the Gothic synagogue on Monterey Square (they say "Shalom Y'all and have a lovely view of the synagogue).
Marcia, that really made me laugh to read "Shalom y'all". I would've bought the cards had I seen them, just great! I really didn't do too much shopping but thought there were some very interesting and impressive items at the SCAD student shop. I bought a lovely lapel pin that looks exactly like a small magnolia flower. It looks like it's made from soft balsa wood or paper, very delicate and a great replica of the flower. It's made by a local artist in South Carolina. There were other pins that were replicas of dogwood, carmellias and gardenias. I'm sending this pin to Sardinia as a thank you to someone that was so kind to me when I visited this past Feb. I've been looking for something special that was made in the U.S. I found the pins at the gift store of the Owens-Thomas House. I did buy two soft bound books on Savannah with some lovely photos. One was of Historic Savannah and the other called Savannah Impressions. Lastly a fun t-shirt for my husband Mike from the "Crab Shack" just outside Tybee Island. That was a fun place to eat with Jane, Ken and Casey. Good memories! Barb Cabot

You guys definitely have me hands down! All I bought was a necklace (in 5 minutes while we were waiting to enter Lady and Sons for lunch), and a Paula Deen cookbook!
Palma, that was a great find! I like to think about buying a small piece of jewelry (well big is good too) when I travel. Then when I wear it, i'm always reminded of where I was when I bought it. Barb Cabot

And a shopping regret: not going in that jewelry store across the street from Paula Deens because I was busy checking names off the list. I admired everyone's purchases and then completely forget to cross the street after lunch. But you know, after saying that I was so glad to be in Savannah because I had never been and saw it as my only opportunity, I now feel that someday we will return. And that may be the most special feeling of all.
I got to spend more time than I had planned in that store! The tornado alarm went off, and the sweet young clerks advised me to stay inside until it had been cleared and to stay away from large windows. That store had VERY large windows. So needless to say, I did buy a few things, but I have not unpacked them as yet, to take a picture of them. They were very pretty fused glass pieces, one in blue tones, and one in red.
Here's my booty. Now, please keep in mind that I would have TOTALLY bought more stuff had Kendall not pushed me down the stairs at Vic's on the River (I love ya Kendall)!
