Anyone else have to be at the airport at 6 AM on Monday the 7th?
I am trying to book an airport hotel using points but, I just called the hotel and they said their airport shuttle was not running early in the AM and that they are "trying to hire somebody" . A cab costs $26 to go three miles. Screw that.
So I guess my question is, if you are going to the airport that early can you please pick me up on the way? It is right by the airport. There is a glass of wine or three in it for you (before that, not that morning.)
If not, no worries, I will find a different place to stay, hopefully with a real shuttle. Or I will suck up the cab fare.
Oh, yes! That early morning flight from Savannah to Chicago to Edmonton...I, also have to get up an that ungodly hour and pretend to be pleasant to the cab driver and the check-in staff at the airport.
I was going to ask my apartment owner to book a driver for me...wanna share? I'm happy to do that, and the extra wine won't hurt, either!

Where are you staying Shannon? I am surprised that your hotel won't assist you with transportation.
I was going to book the Wingate by the airport, Leslie. They said they were offering some compensation for the taxi, but since it would be a free room, I can't really ask for that.
Brenda, if you are taking a cab or car from town, wouldn't it be kind of a pain to ask them to go to an airport hotel first?
I'm feeling pretty zen about the whole thing. It'll all work out.
I have a flight at 6.10 a.m. and was planning to take a taxi from the Hampton Inn on Bay St.* That's 8 miles from the airport and I'm thinking at that hour with no traffic it can be done in no time, as long as a cab reliably shows up. So Shannon, would that ride be 3 miles from the airport hotel? It's a $26 fare from the Historic District or closer? Is it not possible for you to keep staying where you'll be the rest of the time? I'd be willing to share a taxi but it seems logistically difficult at that hour with people starting from different places.
* I know that I saw a shuttle service before, allowing online reservations, and it may no longer be offered; I was going to investigate further or maybe someone here knows. It may have been http://www.lowcountryadventures.com/ , which now just lists transportation to Hilton Head; I was going to e-mail them.
Andrew - the place I was thinking of staying at is VERY close to the airport but the person I called said it was $26 to go those three miles - insane, I know.
I am sharing a house with Marcia, Kim and their husbands but we check out on Sunday. I thought it would just be easiest to go stay by the airport that night.
I agree that logistically, taxis from many different places would not work out. But you should check with your hotel - and see what they say because if 3.5 miles is $26, what is 8 miles going to be? Could very well be the woman I talked to was trippin' and I would be interested in what you hear from your hotel.
I thought my early flight was bad - but 6:10 AM? Crikey.
I understand that $26 is the flat fare from the historic district. Looking at the fare page linked in Terry's e-mail, if I'm seeing the same Wingate, it isn't listed as an airport hotel, and they show a fare of $24 plus $1. Those listed as airport hotels have fares starting at $8.50 pus $1. Staying on points at the Wingate, would that be Trip Rewards? Then could you also use the points at the airport Days Inn, where if the shuttle isn't running you could take a cab for $9.50?
Andrew, I think it is a different Wingate - this one is brand new, and acc'd to the website it is on airport property. That is why I was so shocked at the cab fare.
I've booked it - it looks really nice and Brenda says she can stop on the way to pick me up. It is literally at the end of the exit ramp off the airport exit so it is not too far off the beaten track, thankfully.
Here is the link to the place if anyone wants to stay close to the airport that last night.
That's easy to do, Shannon, It gives me a huge incentive to GET MY BUTT OUT OF BED at that horrific hour of the morning. I'm so not a morning person, I'm so not...
It's one thing to sleep a few minutes more, then sleep a teensy little more and then scramble for the airport when it is only me involved. Now, I gotta get moving fast, 'cause I'll be so embarrassed if I am late picking you up! So, it's all good, except the flight time. This was the only flight out of Savannah that worked for my long trip home, so I gritted my pearly whites and booked it. The great thing is that I'll be home by 3:00 P.M MST. Just in time for a nap.

Shannon, I took a cab from the airport to my apartment, located north of the historic center beside Forsythe Park, and it was $25 including the driver meeting me in the airport, retrieving my luggage from the carousel and helping me take it inside my apartment when we arrived. So $25 from your airport hotel is a bit steep, maybe?
My departure flight has been moved...a teensy bit earlier! Now it's something like 6:45 A.M., so I'll be leaving a little earlier than before, but we can talk about it when you arrive.
The driver told me I should be at the airport 30 minutes before flight time, but mine is an international flight so I need to check to see if I should be earlier than that. We'll figure it out when you arrive!
