I've created a Slow Photos category for the photos of the gathering. I suspect we'll have lots of photos and we might need to more than one category. They are easy to set up if we need more - just post a suggestion or email me.

Otherwise, it is available now:

Great Slow Travel Gathering GTG Album on Slow Photos

The catagory is open to everyone for posting. Take lots of pictures everyone.

Marta,
Take a look at my North America post, which I did this afternoon. Maybe you can answer my question there.
This album is going to be HUGE if we all put our favorite Savannah/Tybee photos there plus our photos of the events. Maybe there could be two albums - one for Slow Trav gathering events and people, and one for the city and area taken by the participants in the gathering.
Just an idea.
Or we could make individual albums and have them all linked somehow?
Anyway, it's fun to share.

Marta,
When I first posted my photos, I simply dumped them into one album so I could get them up for everyone to see. I wanted also to get them online and get back into the city, walking along the streets and enjoying Savannah.

Now, I'd like to split them into a couple of albums, sort them a little bit better and make some sense of each collection.

Is it possible to take the existing album and move the photos to other albums, or do I have to re-post every one to another album?

Thanks in advance, Miss Marta!

I have exactly the same question as Brenda.

I posted two albums on the North America thread-

-one is of Savannah and Tybee Island
http://www.slowphotos.com/photo/showgallery.php?cat=4263

-And the other is a small sampling of photos from our car trip down there - "Contrasts - Heading South"
http://www.slowphotos.com/photo/showgallery.php?cat=4261

I haven't posted my selected SlowTrav event photos yet- should I load them onto the album already created for sharing? (I have 37 of these photos) Or will something else be created that divides them up a bit? Also, I'm wondering if my Savannah album (above) should be added again there. What if we each just made albums of what we have and linked them to a special SlowPhotos category for the Savannah Get Together?
Thanks! Whatever you think is best, I'll happily follow through.

Linda, here's my take. If your album contains photos from the gathering (i.e., of you and other slow travelers), we can link to the GTG section but the photos should only be loaded once either under your name, in your own album, or to the GTG album. If your album contains other types of pictures (e.g., scenery) that you happened to take while heading to or in Savannah, I'm thinking it should be linked to the US country album.

So, for example, if you look at the Savannah Gathering Category, you'll see all the random photos people took. But if you page down, you'll see the links to BGE's member album, and Bugalu's member album. So you could load your gathering photos in one of two ways, as your own member album that we just link to the gathering category, or directly to the gathering category.

What I'm also thinking is that we could break the overall Gathering category down into some sub categories, for the three main events, and even some of the "extra curricular" items - for ease of access. I'm also thinking it makes sense to add some sub categories for United States, to break it down by state (for those that we have a lot of photos for) and more regions for the other. I'm thinking, after this weekend, Georgia needs it's own subcategory.

Does that make sense?

Brenda, you should definitely be able to create new albums and then move the photos between albums (don't copy - if memory serves, this messes things up). If you need some detailed help with that, let me know.

Kim, Thanks for helping out while I was out of town.

I agree about breaking up the Gathering into multiple categories. I wasn't certain what would be the best way. One way I thought of was by day but event might be good also. I knew it would probably be a bit of a pain to move these after originally posting but I'm game on moving things around. Kim, I can also help on moving or organizing the NA category.

And yes, you can create more albums and move not copy. To move a photo, you will want to Change category. The 'trick' is your albums will be at the bottom of the drop down list.

It would be great if copy image worked but unfortunately, there is a bug. There isn't any problems if you leave the photo in both places. The problems occur when you delete one of the photos. Then you end up with a missing photo in your album and you have to reupload the picture.

Marta, I've taken a quick swipe at reorganizing the Gathering photos. Now I'm goingto have lunch. But yes, let's work on North America next - we can confer in the mod forum. Smile

Kim, the organization looks great! I'm ready to go. I'll move my "Savannah and Tybee Island" album to the Gathering category, as an album. Maybe much later it can be linked somehow to the North American category for Georgia, but for now it belongs with the other Gathering photos.....Done! I just made that category change and it worked like a charm.
And I'll create an album for my Gathering Events photos, and add it to the Gathering category, as an album. They're not the greatest! I probably should have used a flash, but there are a few good ones.
Thanks for helping, as I scratched my head and wondered what to do.
By the way, we enjoyed meeting you at the Gathering. So nice to see a face when I see your name. You've done, and you continue to do, an amazing job here.

Thanks.

Thanks Linda,

It was great meeting you too! I wish it could have been longer; I still feel like there were people I didn't get to connect with - ah, next time!

Okay - I've got a bunch of categories set up now in the the Gathering area. I tried to move the photos around to the best of my knowledge but if I screwed up or anyone wants an additional category, just let me know.

Kim and /or Marta,
I'm trying...not getting very far.
I want to move photos from the large album I've posted in the Savannah section into several smaller albums that I've set up in My Albums.
So far, I haven't been able to figure it out! Doh
Any advice?

Brenda, you're trying to move photos from this album, Great SlowTrav Gathering to this album, Savannah Lush Spaces for example?

I moved this photo by clicking on "edit photo" underneath the picture and then on the edit screen, where it says, "Change category? (leave blank to leave alone)" I changed the category to the new "album" (e.g., Savannah Lush Spaces), and clicked Submit Changes.

Try that and let me know how it works.

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a batch edit/move function (i.e., the ability to move a bunch of photos at one time), that I can find. I have one though as Admin. Unless Marta chimes in with a different method, you can move them one at a time, or you can e-mail me how you want them moved, in bulk, and I can do it for you but I'm not sure that will be any quicker.

Kim is correct. There isn't a way to do a bulk transfer between personal albums. Brenda, the trick that everyone misses when you want to move a photo is your personal album is all the way at the bottom of the list of categories. Click the drop and go to the bottom of the list that pops up.

Kim or I can help you move if you need. It can seem slow but it actually isn't bad once you get going.

Thanks, Kim and Marta...
I'm in the process of moving my photos to the various albums right now, and I am losing the counter on some of them. It changes from whatever the view count is to a zero, when the image is moved. Why?
Can I stop that from happening?

I'm going to stop moving them until I figure this out or until you let me know if I'm doing something wrong here.
Thanks in advance, you are stellar! Not Worthy

Brenda, I'm not certain what you are doing. I looked at the Azalea photos that are in the gardening album. I also see still in your big album. Are you using the 'Copy image to ' - option? If so that might explain it. That doesn't work well at all and you shouldn't use copy. Use Change Category which will move the photo to your new album. That usually will retain the counts.

But I noticed that your pictures have an additional category. I have no idea how you did that. I've assigned an additional category to an album but never to an individual photo. Confused

Can you tell me step by step what you are doing?

I give up!
Here's the latest mishap...I lost my photo that you were so kind as to post as Photo of the Week, Marta... Frown Frown Frown
I tried to move it from Savannah Gathering album to Savannah Lush etc. and it shows up as a brown rectangle. What did I do wrong?

Brenda, I don't know. My guess is you are using Copy which I know will cause lost photos and brown squares like what you have.

But I'm not certain. The software for the photos is kinda old and there are some bugs in it. It gets really touchy if you try to copy photos instead of using the changing the category field.

Once you get the 'brown square' - I can't get the photo back. You will have to upload the photo again.

Since I really don't know what you are doing wrong, I can move the photos for you. It usually ends up easier than trying to figure out what is going wrong.

I'm heading off to watch a movie. If you want me to move them for you, I can work on it tomorrow. You can send me a PM.

Marta,
Thanks for your help.
I'm really not using Copy, I'm moving the photo from one category to the next. No idea what that brown square was! Weird. Maybe there are orbs in the software...they were everywhere else in Savannah! I just found them in the photos of our dinner at The Mansion!

***5 minutes later...
I figured it out!
I used the same page as for editing but uploaded the image again by clicking EDIT and then BROWSE, selecting the same photo and VOILA!
