This month's Gourmet magazine is all about southern food. It has lots of great recipes and articles about the south. I enjoyed reading about the origins and evolution of southern food. You can link to an article on-line here about Edna Lewis. Unfortunately an essay she wrote called 'What is Southern?' is only available in the magazine. It was a fascinating read!

Thanks for the link jerry! It isn't a magazine I subscribe to but I will rush out and get a copy.

Isn't she a beautiful wizened woman? Oh to sit in her kitchen and listen to stories! And eat a little of everything too. Why isn't she on the food network representing the south?

I am glad to see you are doing a little research on 'southern'. Are you practicing the lingo?

Umm - because she passed away 2 years ago?

I agree though - even a dead southern cook would be better than you-know-who. Bless her heart.

I am researching Sandi! We are having Hoppin John tomorrow.

I just finished reading the article by Edna Lewis. She is just THE iconic Southern cook.

I loved the article. Really worth the price of the issue (although I subscribe)

What a great article. My mouth is watering like crazy. I can hardly wait to travel down south to Savannah ( have never been in the south) and try some of that wonderful southern cooking.
