I have an absolutely amazing offer for anyone interested in joining a truly interesting and informed Savannahian for a delectable noon Lunch Tea or afternoon High Tea at one of Savannah's yummiest tea rooms, whichever time works best! I don't know what The Savannah Tea Room is like, but the music alone on their website seals it for me. Check out their full menu...their Royal Tea includes champagne! Yessssssssssss
It could even include a few libations...
This lovely Savannahian is Jean, and she knows mostly everything there is to know about Savannah history...past and present, about the ghosts of Savannah, the movies filmed there and the best of the best places to eat in her city.
I met Jean last week, while I was looking for information on the scariest, eeriest ghost locations that I could find for your 'Almost at Midnight Haunted Savannah Trolley Tour!' Nope, Jean's NOT a ghost...she's very much alive and livin' wonderfully in Savannah, and I'd like to invite you to spend a few hours with us and hear her insights and opinions about the city she loves and the stories she has tucked away over the years.
This will be a casual Lunch Tea or afternoon High Tea on Friday, April 4th, so if you are looking for a great place to eat and good company to eat with, let me know. I'll be delighted to make the reservation!
"She didn't come over on the boat with Oglethorpe, but she's acclimated well!" ~ What some native Savannahians say about Jean, who moved to Savannah a number of years ago Brenda
Sounds great, Brenda ... please put us on the list. I think lunch would probably be better than afternoon tea, since there is a dinner scheduled to start at 6:00 that night.
I agree, Roz! Lunch Tea would be perfect for most of us, I think, as an afternoon High Tea pretty much does me in for eating dinner later on. All those delectable desserts, you see...YUM! Perhaps we can join Jean for the Architecture Tour after lunch, if everyone is up for it...or we can sit and drink more tea and learn more about her beloved Savannah!
I'm so delighted that Jean has kindly offered to spend some time with us...we had the best conversation for almost an hour. I learned a lot about Savannah, the great places to eat, the history of the city and the interesting and fascinating aspects of living there.
"Remember the tea kettle - it is always up to its neck in hot water, yet it still sings!" ~ Author Unknown Brenda
We'll be in Savannah from the 1st, though we haven't yet planned our schedule for the first few days. This sounds interesting, though, so (tentatively) count us - Doyle and me - in.
Thanks, Janie and Ann... I'll also be in Savannah early, Ann!
I've been talking with Jean and she has given me a lot of very interesting bits and bites of information about interesting places to visit in Savannah...
Massey School - the oldest free school in Savannah. The school has a historical classroom, where Grade 3 and 4 students can attend school in a classroom set up with rows of wooden desks complete with inkwells, slates and chalk and all of the long-ago tools of schools. In the lower level of the school there is an amazing display of the timeline of development of Savannah's architecture.
Juliette Gordon Low was the founder of the Girl Scouts. Her home is now an historic house museum and is toured by approximately 75,000 Girl Scouts each year. There is also a very active ghost in this house and Jean's company conducts an informative tour of the house, ghost included!
Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room is now only open at lunchtime, since Mrs. Wilkes' passing. Her family now run the dining room and carry on the tradition that she began before WWII. Here's another link.
So, that's the scoop for now...more will be posted as I learn more!

A Lunch Tea combined with an Architecture Walk with Jean would be such fun, and so interesting. Mac and I would really enjoy it, so count us in.

That's fantastic! I'll start a list of interested ST'ers and keep you updated!
Roz and Mike Ann and Doyle Mac and I Paulette Jill... and me...
That's 9, so far. I'll call Jean again and see how many people she would like to have high tea with!
Mac1947, would you mind posting your name for me? I've listed you and Mac as "Mac and I" and I'd much rather have your name, if that's alright with you!
"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea." ~ Henry James Brenda
Now we have 10 people~ Roz and Mike Ann and Doyle Mac and Karen Paulette and Dee Jill... and me... I've left a message on Jean's voice mail and I'll let you know how many people she would like to have lunch with. My guess is that she'll likely set the limit around 12 or so...if you've been thinking of joining us, now's the time!
"You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me." ~ C.S. Lewis Brenda
But Brenda, isn't the tea lunch around noon? Kathy, there still would be time for you to enjoy the tea with Jean and also the architectural tour, too, I believe.
I just spoke with Jean in Savannah, and she's delighted to hear that there are so many people who want to have lunch with her on the 4th of April! I'm going to be there early, so I can take the Savannah Homes and Gardens Tour. I'll meet with her then, to finalize everything for y'all.
So, an updated list of 12 people: Roz and Mike Ann and Doyle Mac and Karen Paulette and Dee Jill Kathy and Bill... and me!
I've suggested to her that we get together a little before noon, perhaps to meet at 11:45-11:50 A.M. in front of the Tea House, so that we can have lots of time for a very hilarious and informative chat about her adopted home town of Savannah. I'll post the address of the Tea House and a map for location for everyone.
Kathy, I'm also going on the Architectural Walk at 3:00 P.M., so we can race over there together!
"We had a kettle; we let it leak. Our not repairing made it worse. We haven't had any tea for a week... The bottom is out of the Universe." ~ Rudyard Kipling Brenda
Please add me to your waiting list Sounds like fun! (I'm also asking to be put on the waiting list for the architectural walk. Somehow I missed these 2 topics(
Done, Mindy! I actually just spoke with Jean again and she's quite looking forward to meeting all of us! I'm going to meet with her when I arrive in Savannah and we'll make the final reservations, but I'll make sure we decide on the location beforehand so I can post it here for everyone. My suggestion would be the Savannah Tea Room but I'll wait to confirm that with Jean, as she knows which one is best!
"To decaffeinate tea, brew for 30 seconds, remove leaves, discard the water and reinfuse the same leaves for 3-5 minutes. The caffeine is not stable and is released in the first 30 seconds of brewing." ~ Savannah Tea Room Brenda
I've just been going over the "optionals" for Savannah and have decided that this event may be one too many for us on Friday. We plan to go on the architectural walking tour that kaydee has planned (or at least I'll attempt it), so I think I'll opt out of this one.
So - you can take Doyle and me off your list which will leave room for two other people.
Thanks for letting me know, Ann! I'm almost positive that Jean will make space for a couple of extra people, so if you want to stay with this lunch, that'd be great. I'll add Mindy and Barb right now, and then if you decide that you can come, just let me know, and I'll add you back in to the mix.
Here's an updated list: Roz and Mike Mac and Karen Paulette and Dee Jill Kathy and Bill... Mindy Barb and me!
"There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea." ~ Bernard-Paul Heroux Brenda
Yay!, I've just read I'm in on the count for tea.Thank you so much for this Brenda. I leave for Italy in a week so I'll try to check in to see what's happening on the boards from there. You have done so much. Can't wait to talk over tea and all the rest! Barb Cabot

I'll look forward to meeting you in Savannah...I know you will love Jean...she's full of great stories, has lived in Savannah for years and loves to chat...well, actually...gossip, she calls it!
I'm going to have lunch with her when I arrive in Savannah, and we'll make a final decision as to where we will meet, then I'll post back here to let everyone know our location for tea and lunch. I can also send e-mails to each of you so you know exactly where we're going!
