We're gonna try to come!! My hubby, Bill just saw the newsletter and said "What about it?" I hadn't mentioned it much to him as I really wasn't sure it would appeal. But after this fall when we met Kathy/Charley and Doug/Liz in France, I think he's come to realize what a good group of people this is.
So, my next task is to see if I can convert some of our Air Canada points for a couple of tickets.
If I'm successful, we'll probably go for a week in order to explore an area we've never even thought of visiting in the past.
And if the tickets work out, I am going to sign up for EVERY lunch, dinner, ghost trip etc. etc. We'll be there with bells on!!!!
I've looked at a few of the accomodations recommended and they're all booked, gotta get working on this.

Brenda, Try Tammy Jo at Luxury Living Savannah. I booked a gorgeous little apartment through her and she's wonderful to work with. I think Pauline and Steve also booked with Tammy Jo. She has a variety of accomms., so there might be something here for you!
I am also going to arrive early, and plan to be there for a week and a little bit. It's such a perfect chance to spend time in a city that has enchanted me for years.
Let me know where you are staying, when you have booked your home away from home!
"I stood agog in Lafayette Square in Savannah, amid brick paths, trickling fountains and dark trees hung with Spanish moss. Before me rose up a cathedral of linen-fresh whiteness with twin Gothic spires, and around it stood 200-year-old houses of weathered brick, with hurricane shutters that clearly were still used. I did not know that such perfection existed in America." ~ Bill Bryson Brenda
I was so happy to see your post! I think you will really enjoy Savannah... and of course this big gathering of Slow Travelers. It would be so much fun to see you again.
I've got my fingers crossed about your plane tickets. I know some people are flying into Atlanta or Jacksonville and then driving onto Savannah. This may make sense for you too.
BC Brenda, I just called Aeroplan and asked about partner FF tickets (United has several flights a day from Vancouver with just one stopover in Chicago or Denver).
I spoke with a very helpful agent (perhaps Sunday is a good day to call ) who intially found one seat on the one stopover flight - but to get two tickets you have to go via Seattle, so an additional change of planes. By the time we finished our conversation the one seat had been taken. The return tickets are wide open at the moment.
Just for reference, everyone said we should not miss the opportunity to visit Charleston, so we are flying into Charleston, picking up a car there. Staying in Charleston for a few days then driving down to Savannah. We fly home from Savannah. An intermediate car for a week at Avis will cost us $253 US - who knows what that will be in Canadian dollars by the time we go - this trip is getting cheaper by the day!
I think you probably need to call for tickets asap. Good luck - we would love to see you in Savannah.

Brenda and Bill, I just spoke with Tammy Jo at Luxury Living Savannah to change my accommodation dates in Savannah, and she has some vacancies in her lovely rentals. I'm not sure what you are looking for, so if you check her website, that might give you an idea about her properties.
As for airfare, I finally got through to Aeroplan and a great agent gave me my flight of choice to Savannah and home, again! Perfect. Absolutely perfect.
So, I don't think you are too late, but I'd not wait much longer to book. If you need help with finding accomms., let me know! I booked my accomms. first, then I went shopping for my flights. For me, the place that I live while I'm away from home is so important to me that it comes first, and then the flight squeeks in a poor second! Keep working on it...it will come together, I'm sure.
