Remember when we had the webcam for the last contest? January 2006. Steve is polishing off the software he put together for that and it looks like we will be able to do this for the Friday evening event.
He has it working. We are using my computer's builtin camera - so we can set up my computer, get it online, then we have the webcam! You can see the image on the computer monitor and you see when it "snaps" - which will be good for people standing in front and saying hello!
We can't take credit for the idea - the Gathering Committee thought of it and asked us if we could do it. We have been meaning to get our webcam software up and running again and this was a good excuse.
Tomorrow I will turn it on in our livingroom for so we can do some testing. Maybe someone will see Buddy. He was "live" tonight.

We ran into a hitch, but we have it sorted. There is no wi-fi at the Friday event (but we thought there was). We can go online via my BlackBerry, but the connection will be slower - new images every 10 seconds only.
We will setup the webcam for the other events:
Thursday April 3, 5pm - 7pm ET: Pre-Gathering Gathering. We should have wi-fi for this so the images will change every few seconds.
Friday April 4, 6pm - 9pm ET: Dinner at the Gingerbread House. Turns out we don't have wi-fi here so we will be going online via my BlackBerry with a slower connection. Images will change every 10 seconds or so.
Saturday April 5, 6pm - 9pm ET: Fun at the Fort. This is our big event. I don't think there is wi-fi, so the connection will be slower.

Too bad we don't have sound with the webcam (is that even possible?). And the images are small but I think it will be fun!
Last night, after his webcam appearance, he brought in a mouse!! We had to take apart our baseboard heaters to rescue the little thing (totally alive).

The Pre-Gathering Gathering starts in about 30 minutes and we are heading over there now - and will set up the webcam! Steve wrote a quick program to save snaps every minute from the webcam so I can put together a slideshow from it.
Steve wrote a program to keep a webcam snap every minute and save them to a file. I uploaded them to Flickr. If you view them as a slideshow, it is like watching the webcam.
