Great idea, Colleen and Shannon. I've just had my first dip in the Chat Room pool, and think I can navigate around now.

Good thought, Colleen and Shannon...
I just posted a topic on the GTG section for people to sign up, if they want to help with the planning and organizing of this gala!

AngelColleen,
Would you please link my post for Giant GTG volunteers to 'Everything Else' and any other section you think is appropriate?
Thank you so much, you little Angel!

I think we might set a record tomorrow. Big Grin

What I would like to do, if it is OK with you all, is to have everyone "speak" for a few minutes in turn. Otherwise it will be very hard to follow. So, we'll go in order of log-on and see where each person is at in terms of thoughts and ideas of how to pull this off. And we should limit it to five minutes per "speaker" (or less) so that everyone can be heard.

Feel free to comment on anything during the course of the chat but wait until your turn to express your ideas.

Is this reasonable?

Plus I have no one helping me tomorrow - so I will greet everyone but when you are out - you are out - no sweet goodbye... Big Grin

Shannon,
It might be helpful if everyone pre-writes their ideas and thoughts about the BGGTG (Big Giant you-know-what) in Word, then each of us can cut and paste when it is our turn. That's my plan, anyway...might help to speed things up, avoid some wait time and please, please help me avoid all of my many y-tops!

Do you want me to help you with this, Shannon? I am comfortable using the chat room and if you tell me what you need done, I'm happy to help...I'll be your right hand man/woman/person/whatever!

Shannon...
I'll be there, with bells on!
And, that is one of my most favorite movies..."The Goodbye Girl"...I lovelovelove Richard Dreyfuss and he was such a brat in this movie!
Let me know what you need me to do, and I'll get it done...I'll be in chat a little early, so you can prep me!

Also: I sleep in the nude.

Winter and summer, rain or snow, with the windows open.
And because I may have to go to the potty or to the fridge in the middle of the night, and because I do not want to put on jammies which I do not own in the first place, unless you're looking for a quick thrill or your daughter an advanced education, I'd keep my door closed." Happy Richard Dreyfuss as Elliot Garfield in 'The Goodbye Girl'

Sheena, Teaberry and I volunteered to work together after today's (Saturday) impromptu chatroom discussion to summarize issues and key points that have been raised the last couple of days about the possible 2008 GTG.

See our summary here.

We hope this will be helpful in focusing the chatroom discussion tomorrow (Sunday).

I have a school in the store this afternoon for the last day of their bookfair. I'll try to sneak away to my office to check in every chance I get.
(no need to keep welcoming me and saying goodbye though Wink)

I was hoping to be in chat but now have to go out. I hope there is a transcript or summary that I can read later tonight.
I know the 2 key factors that I would be basing my decision/committment on going to the GTG are:
1. When?
2. Where?

Thanks for doing all this work on this! J.

I am really blown away by the level of enthusiasm for the big GTG. Shannon you are going to have your work cut out for you today!

I do hope that everyone has been able to read the summary of ideas and issues raised over the past couple of days.

Kathy did a great job of organizing the "Who, What, Where. When and Why's". Well truthfully I don't think anyone questioned 'why'! Wink Grin

One major point that was made over and over at yesterday's chat was the importance of selecting a location close to a major airline hub - bearing this in mind will really help today!

Also, we don't necessarily have to come up with a location today, or a date. From the poll, it looks like people are already leaning towards late winter/early spring, and southeastern US also looks popular, too.

More importantly, let's consider what we want with this GTG - let's consider possibilities, and explore them. What do we want to accomplish, and how do we wish to go about doing it? What are our goals - this can serve as a guide to point us in the right direction and make the right decisions, as a group.

For instance, one of our goals is to be situated near a major airline hub - this will make travel easy on most of us, and possibly more cost-effective.

Let's think along these lines - of creating our goals today at the chat.

I really want everyone to get their five minutes in. And I would like to hear from members who are not in North America, as to whether they can even make it, and if so what is easiest for them.

If our non-North American members aren't going to be able to come, then that opens up a lot of other possibilites in the states.

I am going to be concentrating on everyone getting their time in and moving on to the next person so that everyone has a chance. This is my goal. So don't be mad at me if I say "Ok, time is up, gotta move on." But whoever is speaking has complete freedom to say where, when, why, whatever.

See you in the chat room!

Shannon: OK I am going to go first.
Shannon: Firstly I think this is a killer idea and I think it will be fantastic no matter what.
pedmar: north pole sound good or what?
Shannon: we have lots of time
teaberry: a little warmer please, pedmar
Shannon: I am going to throw out San Diego as a location
teachick: Just no Vegas. All I ask
Shannon: and that is it. Terry you are up!
teachick: Or Reno or any place like it Big Grin
teaberry: Wow, that was quick, Shannon
teaberry: Ok, let me preface this by saying that yesterday there was an informal chat about this very subject
teaberry: and kathy (kaydee), sheena and myself had a private discussion after
teaberry: Kathy brought up some great talking points, and she posted them in one of several threads about this GTG
teaberry: I agree with Kathy that it would be a good idea, before we decide on a place or a "when", that we outline some of our goals
teaberry: in that I mean: hotel or self-catering
teaberry: be near a major airline hub
teaberry: be cost-effective
teaberry: warm location, or doesn't matter
teaberry: how much will the European contingent factor into the equation?
teaberry: how much will
