My family has left me in charge of finding a vacation rental in London for a group of 7. So far, I have only been able to locate only a few possible locations. Has anyone had any experience trying to find such a large rental? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Dan - Welcome to Slow Travel! I recently did some web searching for a rental for a family group of eight, so understand your concern.

Have you seen the vacation rental listings on the main Slow Travel pages? I began by looking at these; while most of the reviews are for smaller units, I used the list to identify agencies that Slow Travel folks have used, and went from there.

Trip plans changed, so I stopped my search, but I did bookmark twp VRBO properties: http://www.vrbo.com/37089, and http://www.vrbo.com/118200. I also bookmarked an additional rental website that had some possibilities: http://www.aplacelikehome.co.uk/index.html

Good luck with your search.

Will more than likely be Nov. 15 - Nov. 29.

Dan, how many bedrooms and how many bathrooms are you looking for? Are the 7 all adults? Could one or two people sleep on a fold-out couch?)

And any sense of where in London you'd like to be?

And your budget?

That gives a little better idea of the type of rental you're looking for.

Yes, it's 7 adults. And since we are going to be there for 2 weeks, we would prefer not to sleep on couches. Because it's 7 adults, it would be necessary for a minimum of 2 bathrooms (with showers). We don't necessarily have an area in mind, preferably a safe area and a rental near a tube station.

If you have 7 adults, why not consider renting more than one apartment in the same building. For example, there are reviews here for for Vancouver Studios, where there is at least one three bedroom unit, and studio apartments as well. And I'm sure there are other apartment hotels that would work for you as well.

So Dan, if you've got 7 adults and prefer no one on a couch, it sounds like you're looking for four bedrooms, one of which could be a single room.

Judy's idea of two apartments in the same building is a good one to consider.

There are a couple on the Great Trips Unlimited website. (They are a Slow Travel advertiser.) And a couple on Absolute Accommodations, another advertiser.

Another advertiser, London Perfect, has this lovely place, if it works for your budget!

In addition to VRBO as mentioned by Judy, I've also used this rent-by-owner website: www.holiday-rentals.co.uk. In the listings for London, use the left hand column to look at rentals based on the number of people and bedrooms.

I suggest looking at places in the Docklands or even around Greenwich. The DLR is a quick, efficient way to travel into London.

We've also been successful using holiday-rentals.

Enjoy the search!
