One thing we like to do when travelling in England is patronize vegetarian restaurants, because they are practically non-existent here in France where we live and -- perhaps more importantly -- we've found that they have consistently provided an extremely high quality (even gastronomic) meal for an affordable and highly competitive price. One such restaurant (where we plan on having at least one meal on our upcoming trip to London) is
Mildred's Restaurant on Greek Street, which I believe is in Soho. I very highly recommend it to everyone out there in Slowtrav land.

Can anyone out there recommend any other good vegetarian restaurants in London?

THANKS!

There's a cluster of South Indian vegetarian restaurants in Drummond St, just round the side of Euston station. Diwana is the most established: it's been going for ages, but was still as good as ever when I last tried it, about 9 months ago. One of their specialities is the dosa: a huge Indian crêpe, made with gram flour (= chickpea flour), filled with spiced potato and served with a delicious coconut chutney. It's all incredibly good value: which you can't often say for non-oriental food in this country (we were out for lunch a couple of days ago in one of Gloucestershire's best gastro-pubs. Excellent food, but it all cost more than any meal we had during 3 weeks of eating out in France and Italy last month - and that included some really quite smart restaurants).

Thanks for this info - I am going to start a vegetarian in England page and add these - England will be our next trip and we hope to spend some time in London. I remember that chain of Cranks restaurants - there was one in Neals Yard near Covent Garden. And we went to a vegetarian Thai restaurant but it wasn't that good: Vegan Thai, 10 Greek St., Soho

And welcome back, Pauline, from me too, in my "native" forum smile I'm sorry to report that the Cranks chain went bust a couple of years ago, and their London restaurants are no more. I did a quick Google just now to check that my memory wasn't faulty, and came up with this site which might be useful.
