Exploring (this is a big event only happens once a decade) a new travel hand bag. Prefer light weight (microfiber) on the small side backpack or cross-over. Needs room for the basics and small camera—with ideally an open pocket on the outside in back and zippered compartments in front. I'm thinking red or a nice green. I lug the rest of my onboard and must-have easy- access- to stuff like laptop and book and that second pair of glasses in my son's old school backpack which still has some mileage in it.
Thanks!

Thanks

cheers, Meg

Do you want slash proof as in PacSafe? There are several styles and I've been happy with my CitySafe 200, but there is a smaller size.

Although mine is still in fabulous shape, I got a leather Kate Spade purse from my husband for a Christmas present and I'm carrying that one to France this year. To my surprise, My MacBook Air and camera fit inside the purse because it is wide at the bottom, unlike many purses. Therefore, this purse is flexible and I won't need a separate camera/carryon size bag.

There are so many microfiber styles, but I'd go for something that makes it difficult for pickpockets. That's why I'm not a fan of the backpack style purses. I prefer a cross-body that can also be made into a short handle that tucks up under my arm.

Thanks—I did try the Bagallinis but the straps are uncomfortable—thanks I will look at the Pacsafe, wish I could see one before buying
. I am actually looking for just a small handbag—something to wear while wandering rather than porting larger items like iPad. I generally put that stuff in a backpack. So: ideal purse is cross-shoulder/backpack, flat-ish, holds small camera, coin purse/billfold, glasses, passport, small cosmetics bag, keys etc....I'm a big fan of putting a climbing clip on handbags to hook extras on to.
I bought my first new suitcase in years last year and that process took me ages but I ended up with a great choice, would love to be able to make that smart of a decision again.

There's an Eagle Creek e-bag that looks good and one by a company called Lilypond? Anyone know these?

You might want to browse Pacsafe. I have used my Citysafe 100 on a number of trips with no complaints. Fits all of the essential items. It is not the most fashionable but it is functional and gives you peace of mind. I only wish I had it in black rather than tan.

If you have an access to Magellan's store or a catalogue, you will find quite a few over-the-body microfiber bags, in different colors and sizes, with multitude of zippered pockets, reasonably priced.

Thanks all—am pushed for time so went with (this time) a tiny ebag called a Terrace which in a bright red (!) cost $13. It has lots of zippers and pockets and look good for city use where I really don't need to weigh myself down but won't of course serve the larger function of 'all my stuff' so will keep looking. I loved what I saw for Pacsafe. The Lilypond bag was interesting as well, it hangs flat by your side but is designed to hold items so they make a bump only on the outside.
